Earth needs dads.

Another one my wife caught.  Coming soon to a theater near you, courtesy of Disney Pictures:  Mars Needs Moms

From the author’s website:

Milo doesn’t get it: What’s the big deal about moms? They’re just slavedriving broccoli bullies. Yet they are worshipped the world over! Perhaps even the galaxy over—because here come Martians and they’re after one thing only: moms. Milo’s mom in particular. Who better to drive them to soccer practice and to pizza parties? That’s quite a long way to come for a mom—could it be that Milo has been overlooking something special?

And from the School Library Journal review on the Amazon page for the book:

Milo just doesn’t get what’s so special about moms. As far as he can see, all they do is nag you to eat your broccoli and send you up to bed when you tint your little sister purple. So who needs them? Well, as it turns out, Martians do (they grow motherless from the ground like potatoes) and one night, three Martians sneak into Milo’s house and steal his sleeping mother. The boy races after them, grabs onto the ladder of their spaceship, and boards it just as it blasts off. Once on Mars, he looks outside and finally understands why the Martians need a mom so badly–They needed driving to soccer! And to ballet! And to playdates, parks, and pizzas! Plus cooking and cleaning and dressing and packing lunches and bandaging boo-boos! Just then, he trips and falls and is saved by–you guessed it! And the sympathetic aliens take the boy and his mother home. The story ends with Milo waking up in his mother’s bed, cuddling next to her. In typical Breathed form, the illustrations are lush, plush, and over-the-top with color, attitude, and craziness. The picture of the Martians trying to bait a mom with what looks suspiciously like a brand name Grande coffee on a line is hilarious, to say the least. Share this witty and sweet tale with young readers and their moms for a wacky treat.–Lisa Gangemi Kropp, Middle Country Public Library, Centereach, NY

While I haven’t found any reference to the father in plot summaries, IMDB does show someone cast for the role of Milo’s father.  Maybe they show his father in the trailer for the movie:

Nope, I didn’t see a father there either.  But while this is ostensibly a movie about appreciating your mom, the part they want to show off appears to be more a young boy teaming up with an older male (father?) figure.  Could it be that Disney knows many boys are craving a father figure, and chose to highlight this aspect in the trailer?

Maybe in the alternate trailer:

Nope, but we learn that Moms are Earth’s most valuable resource.  Also, before you assume the author is either a feminist or a mangina (or both), you should know the following from his Bio on Wiki:

raised in Houston, Texas, Breathed attended Westchester High School.[1] He was a cheerleader his senior year and graduated in 1975.

and

During the middle of September 1990, while visiting a factory in England, Mr. Breathed noticed he received odd, humorous looks from the workers upon hearing his name. After inquiring about the reason for their strange looks, he learned that his nickname, “Berke,” is a homophone with “Berk”, a vulgar term for a vagina in Cockney rhyming slang (“Berkeley Hunt“).[10]

Is this the same Berke who used to draw comic strips?

  2. namae nanka says:

I think after a few million abortions and the incessant dumping of children in child-care and public education system, it’s time to accept that motherhood is a social construct.
And that the poor unsuspecting children should be freed from this matriarchy and the emotional bondage foisted upon them.

  3. The Truth says:

Ignore hollyshit, tv and msm. They are useless.

  4. Tarl says:

Mars needs moms so all the Martian boys can grow up to be faggots, betas, or thugs, depending on the variety of single-mom bad parenting they receive.

  5. Dex says:

Yes, Anonymous, this is the guy who did Bloom County and Outland.

  6. Motherhood is the last sacred cow. For two generations all the society-building and society-maintaining institutions have been questioned and then gored.

Ah, but motherhood. It’s the thing that we are always supposed to venerate, to worship, to idealize. Most of the socio-political spectrum still has a soft spot for motherhood.

It’s the institution where women can always fall back on for safety and protection by men and government.

I remember watching an episode of “Cops” some years ago. The police were arresting a screeching woman and stuffing her in the back of the patrol car. Her final words as the police were closing the door were screamed out in rage: “You can’t arrest me, I’m a mother!”

There is much discussion in the manosphere about entitlement princesses. Perhaps it’s time to discuss entitlement moms.

Isn’t that what family court represents? Just askin’.

  8. Lovekraft says:

I bet that if you took a poll of all males in society and asked them what they thought of their wives/mothers in the sense of “do they live up to societal expectations” (and this poll was anonymous, of course), the answers would be earth-shaking of the sort that would send the whole mother-worship ideology to a resounding crash.

  9. Timitz says:

Based off of Bloom County, and his comic strips, I’m not sure he is pushing the feminist agenda here, any more than making a quick buck off of a movie about kids who should appreciate their moms. I know my mom, would have made me watch this movie and said, “See? Appreciate what I do for you, and clean your room.”

Based off his cartoon strip, you could make the argument that he was advancing the counter feminist agenda, by glamorizing mothers at home, doing mom, stuff as opposed to working at the office. Just a thought.

  10. Eric says:

Actually, I’d be delighted if most anglo women took off and went to Mars. Not only would it practically end social scourges like divorce, abortion, and false rape accusations; think of the millions of stable happy homes that would be created once men could actually find decent wives again.

Not only that, but they would bring all their ‘issues’ to Mars, and the social devastation there would utterly ruin any chance of an Martian invasion!

  11. jack says:

Take the Moms, leave the MILFs.

  12. Thag Jones says:

Well, I finally know the origin of the word “berk” after all these years.

Every one of these idiotic movies for kids sounds and looks the same and it’s just utter codswallop; idiot-speak dialogue, soulless computer animation, lousy commercial music, obvious moralizing “message”… So boring.

  13. zaporozhe says:

According to IMDB, Mr. Breathed wrote the book, and the screenplay written by Simon and Wendy Wells.

    [D: Thanks for the clarification.]

  14. My Name Is Jim says:

They start indoctrinating early don’t they. Wonder when we’ll get a Cartoon network episode with the message that your dad is not a bad father just because he couldn’t get off work to go to his daughter’s piano recital. Wouldn’t that be a great idea! *Holds Breath*

  17. Half Canadian says:

I agree with Bubba. I’m waiting for the Deathtongue movie.

  18. the UnBastard says:

I watched this movie on netflix streaming, just for laughs but it’s not about mars needing moms at all. It’s about the nuclear family the feminists on mars destroyed, and the matriarchy being destroyed! This movie is anti-feminist.

When the boy gets to mars, it’s ruled by women! men live in the martian dumps, male babies that are born are thrown down into the dump to be raised by the men. the women are raised by robots – that get their programming from…a mom from earth. blah blah blah, the end of the movie is the matriarchy being overthrown by a female martian. the ‘men’ are portraryed as immature, but they do raise the male babies themselves.

fucky fuck fuck fuck – hopefully you’ll see this in moderation with this attached…:)
