On my last post regarding Lara Logan, commenter Danman left a link to an article from Mediaite.com which argued (but did not present any evidence) that the blogger I linked to was incorrect. The Mediaite article in question was written by Mediaite founder Dan Abrams. At least one commenter suspected that Danman was in fact Dan Abrams himself. Either way, Mr. Abrams turns out to be an interesting fellow. In addition to his gossipy website, he also wrote a book about how women are better than men at everything.
I know the ladies are wondering if such a magnificent fellow is still available. After all, all women dream of a man who would prostrate himself in front of their obvious superiority. Adding to this already hefty appeal, he also is willing to get his legs waxed.
Well I have good news for you ladies. Surprisingly this 46 year old white knight has somehow not been snapped up. Per his web page:
Dan has never been married, so despite his admiration for women, evidenced by this book, that does not mean he necessarily knows how to talk to them.
You don’t say?
Edit: Here is the video where he gets his legs shaved. H/T namae nanka.
“While CBS has stated that Logan was not raped, sadly, this story fits all the cliches of the rape culture that discourages women from reporting rapes, and makes certain they will be disbelieved if they do. Murderers and rapists are presumed innocent, while sexual assault victims are often presumed liars.”
Notice how he doesn’t use the words “accused” and “accuser”, just “murderer/rapist” and victim”.
If presuming innocence of the accused and placing the onus of proof on the accuser means we live in a “rape culture” then I’m damn glad we live in a “rape culture”. Last I checked accusations are to be considered false until proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This makes me cringe… that book is ridiculous haha. Such a fitting fate for him to be single.
Or celibate, I should say.
Woah..sharp cheekbones.
Are you putting him down for never been married? I thought never married 46 year old men were aspired to by some men in these parts.
[D: You must have me mixed up with some other blogger. Are you suggesting he is a player?]
Is this the same guy?
http://www.inquisitr.com/16059/renee-zellweger-dating-msnbcs-dan-abrams/
“Abrams has previously dated Elisabeth Rohm of Law & Order, Jaime Murray of Dexter and Elle Macpherson.”
[D: Ouch. You are cruel. He dated Renée Zellweger? I only included a pic of him getting his legs waxed.]
must have a small penis, or creepy, or must be gay, that’s why no woman thought him worth marriage.
How many of these “Men really, really, really, REALLY suck” books are they going to write? Sheesh.
“At least one commenter suspected that Danman was in fact Dan Abrams himself. “
Did you see his response to me? Seems like the kind of praise for a journalist, that only a journalist would give of themselves. If it isn’t Abrams himself, that Danman sure seems to have a crush on him. Just sayin’…
I find this quite weird, because Abrams was an early critic of the complete traveshamockery that was the Duke lacrosse rape hoax. I’m really loath to criticize him at all, even for his self-hating book, because he was so steadfast about that case.
[D: Good info. I didn’t know that about him.]
It’s really funny you should post this!
A friend and I were talking yesterday about a very neurotic never-married friend and I mentioned that if someone goes for over 40 years without ever having once been married, that person is in the statistical minority and you can bet there is something off-putting about them.
Abrams is proving me right.
Gay or raised by a fembot.
I wonder if Abrams really “walks the walk” in terms of pedestalisation. It could just be a ruse to sell books. It would be tragic if he really believed his own myth.
[D: Wouldn’t it be worse if he knowingly threw his fellow man to the wolves?]
How many of these “Men really, really, really, REALLY suck” books are they going to write? Sheesh.
As many as can be sold. The market for them does not appear to saturate, any more than the market for women’s porn, aka “romance novels”, can be saturated.
In other words, “all they can sell that the market will bear”.
What would be novel, and different, would be a book that claims “Hey, men ain’t so bad…”.But I doubt it would sell many copies to women. Some, I am sure, but not many.
Workshy Joe: Indeed. I find it hard to believe that a pedestalizer of that magnitude would be able to have relations with especially many women and for any time without losing his mojo and/or being taken to the cleaners. I mean, he’s almost begging to have his ass raped, if he lives his life according to his views on paper.
“Notice how he doesn’t use the words “accused” and “accuser”, just “murderer/rapist” and victim”.”
That’s because he was REFERRING to actual rapists and victims, of which there are sadly plenty.
That book looks like an urban legend. There have been plenty of “women suck” books too, and any book that panders so completely to one sex in the name of science just pisses me off. What I assume from these childish extremes is that we’re really somewhere in the middle and much closer to equality than we thought. Having said this, I was still prone to look at this book as being something of a joke, maybe exaggerating the title on purpose. But after the preceding pictures of the author, I’m guessing the man is fascinated by women as an allegedly superior sex.
I was wondering when someone would pick up on Dan Abrams and his book.
Like Lily, I assumed his confirmed bachelorhood was because he just doesn’t want to commit, not because something is wrong with him. He’s a handsome, successful, accomplished guy. And if that list of ex-girlfriends Lily provided above is any indication, he is at least somewhat successful with women. At least he can get a relationship going.
All that said, this book is troubling on a number of levels. I saw the spot on GMA where they highlighted the book and he kept going on and on about studies that proved his assertions. Studies done in a lab!
Doesn’t everyone know by now that studies almost always skew in favor of whomever is funding them? They are meaningless unless instigated and funded by a neutral third party with nothing to gain from the results.
Even more troubling is the perpetuation of the myth that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. Or worse, that men need women more than women need men. Haven’t the documented realities of what happens to children from fatherless homes been enough to put this nonsense to rest? When are we going to stop pretending that women are all-powerful, self-sufficient beings capable of doing anything on their own? This is simply not true and we all know it.
Why perpetuate it?
I should add a caveat. When I said Abrams was “handsome”, I meant that he’s attractive enough, not that he’s a Brad Pitt or Rick Fox or Antonio Banderas (are all ethnicities represented, lol?) or anything like that.
He needs to turn in his Man Card. Men don’t have to be retard jackasses, but this is just Quisling behavior. Ugh.
[D: Good idea.]
Saw the video… he’s like Mr. Rogers with low-testosterone dysfunction.

I know we are in general agreement, but on this point I disagree.
First, as I mentioned to Lilly; Renée Zellweger? Really? Not even a young(ish) Zellweger, but 8 years after Bridget Jones (see the photo in Lily’s link). I would say that by itself proves my point. Is there any man here who thinks she is attractive?
Second, the quote about him not knowing how to talk to women is from his website. He wrote it, or paid someone else to write it.
Third, given this guy’s status, he should easily be able to either find a wife or date (or if you prefer bang) nice, young, pretty women. Imagine the success he would have if he wasn’t omega with women (did you watch the video?). Or, imagine how unsuccessful an average guy would be with women if he acted/thought like Dan does.
When will the white knights learn? Women secretly laugh behind your backs and men don’t respect you. That leaves you on your own, Abrams. That is, until you shack up with a 40-something year old feminist who can use you as a doormat.
I’m not sure I believe in “peak oil”, but I am now a firm believer that we are reaching “peak mangina”.
Last exhale and blow-off of the demasculation trend is near…
[D: Good one. We can only hope.]

Dalrock, I was thinking about that since Lilly posted it. Back when Howard Stern was still on non-satellite radio, he stated it isn’t so much that a man can bed/date/marry famous women, it’s when he can get her. A 25 – 30 year old Renee Zellweger? Quite an accomplishment. A 40+ year old, once divorced Renee Zellweger? Not so much of an accomplishment.
“[D: You must have me mixed up with some other blogger. Are you suggesting he is a player?]”
I said some men in these parts, not necessarily the host himself.
But just to clarify, are you saying that a 46 year old man who has never married but has dated a succession of women (including ‘the Body) whom let’s face it 80%*+ of men in the world who wanted to would not be able to get even an initial date with regardless of whether the said women were 20 or 4o at the time, is a failure at relations with the opposite sex?
*I would not presume to make a guesstimate on your readership. Obviously, any men who think that they would not want Renee (I never understood the attraction myself or in fact why they chose her to be Bridget Jones and had her go on a special diet to put on weight, it’s not like we have a shortage of actual English actresses who are the right size to start with – but that’s besides the point) because of her age etc, must be in a position that they could easily ‘pull’ her but choose not to.
[D: See my response to Terry and mmack’s comment above.]
Interesting observation about ‘white knights’: while I was in South America recently, it was reported that Joran Van der Sloot; a notorious scumbag and suspect in the disappearances of several women worldwide was arrested for the murder of a Peruvian woman.
The media there also reported that Van der Sloot had been receiving tons of fan mail— including marriage proposals—all, of course from the Anglosphere where women seem to find Van der Sloot’s type appealing.
Contrast that with Abrams. Still unmarried at 46: I wonder how much fan mail he and others like him regularly get from all the ‘damsels’ he’s so eager to defend? Something tells me Van der Sloot’s a lot higher on the Anglobitch ‘Hot List’ than Abrams is.
I’ve mentioned elsewhere that my idea of chivalry today is imagining a white knight out fighting the dragons while the damsel is back in the tower getting it on with the jester in the knight’s bed. That’s about the caliber of women men are dealing with today; and guys like Abrams look like laughingstocks.
He looks like the kind of guy who would leave work early and get docked some pay to drive over to change the tire of a girl he likes (in the rain) so that she can drive over to her bad-boy lover’s place for a hookup. And he pickup up some condoms for her on the way.
For some reason I’m overcome with a desire to douse him with a mixture of vinegar and water. Not sure why.
Women can hammer nails better? I’m not sure, but just think about all the wood that could be saved by eliminating the unused part of the hammer handle.
I also believe Abrams was kicked off of the MSNBC primetime lineup to make room for Rachel Maddow. Ouch.
Never trust a man who tells you what you want to hear. They are wolves in sheeps clothing. This guy is just trying to make a buck off of womens egos. He doesn’t believe anything he says.
Paige:
LOL that sounds like a lot better advice for men to follow when dealing with women. A man who believes ANYTHING a woman tells him, and that he isn’t just being played, ought to have a reality check.
Women, at least in our culture, have no feelings for men and no scruples about using them to their own advantage. Men like Abrams are used mercilessly by women like Lara Logan; but men like him are usually in such a state of deep denial, they believe that women care at all about their words or actions.
