If women can’t be manly Marines, then manly Marines must wear girly hats.

Current covers left, proposed covers right.

Juli Weiner of Vanity Fair mocks the idea that manly Marines would want to remain manly:

Marine officers vote on Friday whether they want to adopt the new hats and look like the cast of RENT eating a damn banana smoothie at a David Barton gym or whether they to keep the old hats and with them, their masculinity. [Spits chewing tobacco on ground.]

According to the NY Post after voting by Marines on the proposed covers ends on Friday the final decision will be made by Gen James Amos.

Leaves me thinking of Star Trek TNG episodes where guys are wearing dresses. Just no.

  2. finndistan says:

Considering that European armies are a joke and we are dependent on the US to keep some kind of fighting force, the new clothing looks like a banana force.

From a uniform with pride and history, to the turd color of Mao clothing.

Every single type of cancer wishes it was as effective as feminism and its controllers.

  3. Underdog says:

Next thing you know, they’d be forced to wear skirts.

  4. Cautiously Pessimistic says:

Sure, let’s force our military to wear effeminate uniforms. Because what’s the worst that can happen?

  5. mrsdarlings says:

Ah! Surely obama’s wife has something to do with all this ridiculous stuff. Next it’s gonna be pink with……. ribbons! No,wait! How bout lace! I wonder how worse it will become before it get’s better. Hehe

  6. Ton says:

Girly hats seem more appropriate them being the marines and all…. sorry couldn’t resist. Besides got no room to talk, I wore a beret most of my 24 years.

  7. Wilson says:

It would be difficult to catch cheaters, but they should revise the fitness standards to maximums for men rather than minimums. Like if you can do more than 2 pullups or if you run too fast you’d be dishonorably discharged.

  8. DEN1 says:

This is no doubt payback for not giving females a ‘pass’ to get through the Marine Corps Infantry Officer’s Course.

  10. JDG says:

    We are so screwed!

  11. I’ll say this for the Marines: once they’ve embraced an idea they take it to its most extreme level in order to become the best at it anywhere in the world. Underdog jests, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see all Marines in skirts before the end of this decade.

  12. Warlock says:

Hats on both sides look gaudy and effiminate to me. Whatever happened to simple function?

the manly marine’s cover has a crease in it… but the gurrly marine’s cover has no crease. I’ll bet he’s circumcised too… so his hat is creased AND his genitals are circumcised?! I call misogyny and her hat needs to be creased NOW!!

Great Post!………..I had to read the links that you provided before I give “my opinion”……this is the most pathetic thing I have seen in years!!!! I would expect this in Canada….not the USA…..but,coming from Obama….I believe it! As a “foreigner” and your biggest trading partner….and a part-time resident of the USA….this is the most pathetic thing I have seen him do.I have great respect for the US Military….and I salute all of you Veterans on this Blog.Canada has remained “free” because of the USA military.Every US President that is elected has his first visit by a foreign leader …………..The Prime Minister of Canada. We have the longest unguarded border in the world. When the Canadian Prime Minister visits the newly elected President….the President assures him…”Any attack on Canada will be considered an attack on the USA”….I take that relationship very seriously as a Canadian!………My personal belief?…..Obama should be impeached!

  19. HanSolo says:

The new hats suck. Keep the old ones. The military brass have sure become a bastion of feminism and the feminine imperative.

  20. greyghost says:

Damn man I can’t believe they are doing this me. The last time they punished greyghost was when that guy jumped into his boyfriends arms and kissed, he had his legs wrapped around him too.
But in all truthfulness I can’t be against this because the military’s next large action is going to be against the American people so the more disenfranchised the masculine patriotic romantic men the better for us. (The masculine patriots will have something to believe in fighting with us when the government comes after us)
I hope you are ready Ton.

  21. HanSolo says:

OT but might be of interest to some of your readers.

Susan falsely accused me of being an example of MRAs and PUAs that deceptively try to make it seem like rape and sexual assault happen less than they do.

  22. I do not like those new hats. The ones on the left look much dressier, much more professional, much more US Marine (for both men AND women.) The ones on the left, you recruit with. The ones on the right look like what a Marine must wear sitting in an Human Resources office while being repremanded for saying a naughty word. The ones on the right, are for cracking jokes.

  23. I have $10 here that says the femosphere will go apoplectic and accuse the USMC of being entirely too saturated with misogynistic pig-men rapists when they vote to keep the old style hats.

  24. Frankly, I’m shocked.

A female with the surname ‘Weiner’ who resorts to mocking men who want to be manly.

    I didn’t see *that* coming.

For the record, I like the proposed hats. They resemble the lids worn by the French Foreign Legion, a *real* elite fighting force.

  25. Carnivore says:

Hats aside, the two women look ridiculous dressed the way they are. Sorta like when your baby sister sneaks to mommy’s make up and shortly thereafter comes out looking like a clown. This time, she sneaks into daddy’s closet to play soldier dress-up.

  26. Carnivore says:

And the really sad part is that wimpy daddy will support his daughter 100% in her ridiculous aspirations and behavior.

  27. Alex says:

If you are dumb enough as a man to fight for this stupid man hating country then you should be forced to wear a dress. Your own country is now humiliating you for being so stupid as to fight for it. It openly hates you in a million different ways every single day, and it gets worse and worse every year. Men should emigrate out of the west and leave the women to procreate using sperm from sperm banks…just like the feminists have been threatening for generations now. Let the Muslims have Europe, and let the Mexican Catholics have North America. It will serve the feminists right to have to live under Sharia Law and Mexican Machismo.

There are not enough bad words in all the languages of the world to describe what I feel about my country…but hey, we did it to ourselves. We should have never given the little ladies the right to vote. Even they know deep down that they should not have that right. Has our country been made better by it? Is the western world worse off or better off because of it? Every society before us has been ‘patriarchal’ for a reason, it was ignorance, hubris, and female pedestalization that caused the western world to commit suicide.

We’ve been metaphorically wearing the dress for decades now, might as well make it official. Serves us right for being so weak. Women are trying to send us men a message…but we keep failing the shit tests. Hence we have proven ourselves not strong enough to protect them, hence they have thrown open the gates to our nations to invaders who are not as weak and idealistic as we are.

8 Million Bucks to buy new covers for the Marines, at a time when equipment needs are sky high. How about some new machine guns? How many new rifles could one buy with 8 million bucks? Maybe the Marines could stand to have a few million bucks worth of new ammo?

Or as some might say in Texas: Small hat. No cattle.

  29. 8 Million Bucks to buy new covers for the Marines, at a time when equipment needs are sky high.

Exactly, AR is correct, this is not an appropriate way to spend the money.

  30. Dalrock says:

Hasn’t the federal government already cornered the market on ammo? Or is that just the Dept of Homeland Security?

Hasn’t the federal government already cornered the market on ammo? Or is that just the Dept of Homeland Security?

My husband says the ammo company presidents swear up, down, left, and right that this is not so. They promise and cross their hearts that it is really gun owners just binge-buying. At least that’s the song they were singing to Guns and Ammo last month.

Vaterland Securitate has some huge orders in the pipeline, some in load/caliber that are not commonly used by the military such as .40 S&W. Uncle Sam’s Misguided Chillen’ tend to be at the tail end of the procurement pipeline…

We had the NFL wearing shocking pink trim …
Somewhere out there, I saw a mangina manning a table in beautiful pink trim taking signups and pledges for a breast cancer walk. He stopped me. I said no. He said why not? I said when you and men like you are doing this for prostate cancer, I’ll sign up to support that cause.

There have been comments about Obama’s apparent purge of top generals. Another sign of the times.

Somewhere the Marine dead are rolling in their graves.

  35. Random Angeleno says:

  36. Poor Marines. They already have to start wearing their “dry clean only” uniforms several days a week. Now they get girly hats too.

Steady on. Somewhere out there is a fashion conscious design team, with real needs for bmw’s, audis and appropriate standards of living.

After all, this is the us of a we`re talking about. The welfare/warfare/haute couture state must go on.

The way you’re all talking, you’d have designers on the breadline, sipping instant coffee and sneaking into walmart late at night, desperate to avoid being seen. Dear oh dear.

  42. Ton says:

Oh I have a thing of two saved up Greyghost but I won’t go courting trouble. Hoping my son will go live in my condo in Eastern Europe and avoid the whole mess. That way my family name will live on for a little while longer but like all fleas we don’t have to win, we only have to not lose long enough.

  43. Hannah says:

What the hell is wrong with the caps they already wear Deti?!
It probably only took half a dozen female recruits dressing up before they realised something looked silly.
It can’t be that the uniform belongs on a man… no, it must be the hat. Yes, the original cap was most likely designed by a woman-hating male. Oh can’t you see how wide it makes our heads look?

“Honey does this hat make my face look fat?”

Ooh lets come up with a girl-friendly ‘Equality’ version! Best for the women, best for everyone.

Oh you lucky men, it only took us girls moments to fix the issues you’ve probably never even noticed… bless your oblivious hearts. Don’t worry, we’re here now… we’ll get everything sorted.

Ton – berets are cool… well in my family anyway 🙂

  44. Joe Blah says:

We need female-only, frontline combat units with their own special uniforms, pink heart medals, chain of command, etc.

Let them wear whatever they want and set their own physical requirements. It’s only fair.

  45. Hannah says:

I went to a meeting for the National Council of Women here in N.Z a couple of months ago… about Equality in the Workplace. They’re pushing for equal representation in male-dominated fields such as mechanics. One woman who’s in charge of thousands of mechanics around the country (she doesn’t actually know anything of anything about cars but apparently that’s besides the point cos the point is celebrating women pushing through gender divides and coming out on top! In fact her answer to my challenge was that she’d decided to ‘Start from the Top’) was praising the changes made when women enter a men’s only field. One of the highest achievements was that the workplace was ‘TIDIED UP’. Seriously.
I questioned this, saying I didn’t imagine any of the guys cared if the place they worked in was tidy or not. She said in hushed tones she didn’t just mean MESS, but unclean pictures such as nudie calendars. I said that’s what I was talking about too.
I don’t think she understood. Anything.

  46. Anonymous age 71 says:

Dalrock, a gun expert tells me there are 20 billion rounds of military grade ammo in private hands in the US. He says he knows one man who has over 100,000 rounds all by himself. This dwarfs the 7 billion allegedly ordered by HS, but also not yet delivered.

An owner of an ammo factory said, off the record, that the contracts were undated and when called they have to shut down alll civilian production. He assumed that this was to stop production for civilians if a revolution starts rather than to accumuate rounds in the government warehouses.

Another man says, let them have their 7 billion rounds. He said, view it as ammo dumps for when the uprising starts, which may be an obsolete term for you young guys, you may know it as caches.
    .

I am not sure it matters, as long as the Marines can still fight once the bullets start flying. At least the hats aren’t pink.

Nothing….. from what I can see.In fact,I think the Marine uniform is one of the smartest in the world.I assume that that you have seen the RCMP(Royal Canadian Mounted Police) uniforms? They are sharp! About 10 years ago they changed the uniforms for a “minority”……the Sikhs. We changed our standards to allow these “camel jockeys” to wear turbans in the RCMP..and have their “sacred beards”….They look so f*****n retarded. The RCMP lost a lot of respect for doing this! You don’t like the uniforms?…don’t sign up.Changing our dress code for the RCMP for a minority of “camel jockeys” was the most absurd and stupid thing our government has done in years!

    1. As a Marine and one who does not care if they do not like my opinion, the new hats look gay. Therefore, they suit perfectly the new direction that the USMC is taking–up the rear. The brass are so glad that this damn war is over so they can get back to uniform inspections and close order drill, you know, the Real Marine Corps™. All that fighting was so inconvenient, and in training for war we “got away from the basics of being Marines.”

    2. The DHS ammunition stores are scattered throughout the States, where they will be needed. That makes them vulnerable to seizures by nefarious individuals. Just saying…

Meanwhile, on another front, feminists are VERY ENTHUSIASTIC about the idea that a man should be made responsible for women not reproducing at the correct age:

I second every word you’ve said – and I served in the military for nearly twenty years (got out at 17 years because I could no longer tolerate what was happening on the inside).

I have a blanket question that I would love to have every single active duty and reserve member of the U.S. armed forces answer: “If you were ordered by El Presidente (or your commanding officers, by proxy) to implement martial law and essentially tear the U.S. Constitution (flawed a document as that is) to shreds, WOULD YOU OBEY THE ORDER?”

Anyone who answers “yes” becomes the enemy.

  64. Dalrock says:

    @Alexander

Eh. Seems strange to put up a fuss about this when we’re at a point where we have female Marines in the first place.

    Titanic. Deck Chairs.

There is much truth here, and the main thrust of the post is describing the mechanism which makes this all but inevitable. But the flip side is the whole women in the military question is almost entirely symbolic for feminists. They want to make sure we can’t ever again say Thanks to the men who sacrificed so much for us without feminists chiming in “and women too!”. For this reason, no rank and no unit can remain untouched, and that means even Delta Force, Seal Team 6, etc. It really chafes feminists that they couldn’t suit up a woman who looked just like the men and have her tag along when they took out Bin Ladin. This is the problem feminists won’t rest until they have solved, and the territory marking is more of an uncontrollable instinct which they will inevitably unleash as part of the process.

But there is a flip side to the same symbolic coin. Feminists have no interest in having women in the military truly deliver. They have to say they do, because this is required to achieve their true objective which is a game of make believe. But all they really need is enough women “participating” to claim “they did it too” and so the tacit bargain between feminists and the military is “Let women in and pretend they are the same as men, and we will then allow men to get the job done”. Feminists don’t want to kill the host, they want to tag along and benefit from the host’s success. This doesn’t mean they don’t revel in the idea of making the host sick, but they don’t want to kill it. Given that the feminist territory marking is more of a secondary compulsion than the primary goal, and the fact that overly demoralizing the men will eventually negate the bargain of allowing men to get the job done (so long as the men don’t get credit), there is room for negotiation here. There will in fact be a constant renegotiation along exactly this sort of line so long as women are part of the force. How much readiness can be sacrificed to deliver on the primary feminist goal (posturing), and how much envious and spiteful demoralization can the Host/Corps survive before things get serious? Feminists will continue to push as close to the line as they think they can get away with.

  65. Scott says:

“I have a blanket question that I would love to have every single active duty and reserve member of the U.S. armed forces answer: “If you were ordered by El Presidente (or your commanding officers, by proxy) to implement martial law and essentially tear the U.S. Constitution (flawed a document as that is) to shreds, WOULD YOU OBEY THE ORDER?”

I recently re-enlisted one of my NCOs. He asked me to be the one to do so, and I took it myself to lecture him for about an hour on this very topic. Specifcally, we talked at great length what it means to swear allegiance and “true faith” to the constitution. In the end, it turns out he knew I would do this, and this is why he wanted me be swear him in. There are still a few of us who take the oath seriously.

  66. Alexander says:

Dalrock, i get that – but regardless of what they *want*, feminists will kill the host. It’s inevitable.

What we conservatives end up doing is trying desperately to preserve the terminally ill (and highly contagious) bodies of infected institutions. We (rightly) recognize how valuable these institutions – the church, the boy scouts, the marines etc. etc. – have been in the past and feel some sense of obligation to not let them simply die, and we also have a naive optimism that they can recover. Except the one thing that might actually work – a full out purge – we refuse to do.

So instead, we, through our own attempts at healing – do nothing more but give the infected more time and more legitimacy among society at large. We actually *reinforce* the bloody thing we’re supposed to be against!

[D: I wrote about this problem here.]

The Marines are lost. They were lost as soon as it became acceptable to allow women in them. The fact we even had to go to DADT and then its inevitable repeal are only further signs that the battle on this front is over. But every month that goes by is another month that liberals will point to the military and make a snide remark about how female soldiers hasn’t led to an invasion by the Caliphate.

In short, an infected institution, no matter how much it pains us to do so, should be treated like the enemy. Because by any measure of practical results, it *is*.

So bring on the girly hats. And while we’re at it, let’s get a true universal Selective Service in place, And female combat positions. Let’s abolish the term ‘cockpit’. Make the men wear fake pregnancy bellies. All these things will more quickly force reality upon us, and with it the demise of the enemy’s ideology.

Imagine if you will if all American men refused to join a desegregated military. The feminists would fall in a day, and they would be completely exposed as the shysters they are. Their greatest strength is our enablement.

  67. feeriker says:

That’s great news, Scott! I sure hope that there are MANY more out there like you and the NCO you re-enlisted. You’re the only hope we have of sanity prevailing when everything goes south!

  68. Opus says:

The uniforms mean nothing to me; never seen either before – and I must say I too thought the one on the right looked a bit Foreign Legion. How are you going to achieve true equality however until the females are the same size as the males. The only conclusion to be drawn (in the spirit of equality) is that as despite their smaller size they performed as well as the men, and thus pound for pound did better!

And they look cuter too – way to go ladies.

  69. Scott says:

    feeriker-

Unfortunately, I don’t think there are. But I press on and do my duty.

In this scene from “Gettysburg,” when GEN Buford describes an (as he sees it) inevitible losing battle unfolding before him, helping it, “knowing it wil fail” he gulps and mounts his defense anyway.

I do not know know the outcome of all this. I know I can tell evey soldier in my AO about their duty. It is in God’s hands now, because the enemy occupy the proverbial high ground–controlling the politcal rhetoric, the information, educational institutions, and the culture.

  70. Cautiously Pessimistic says:

Feminists don’t want to kill the host, they want to tag along and benefit from the host’s success.

I think you give too much credit. I’ll agree that most of them never think in terms of killing the host, but of those that do, I think killing it is a valid outcome. For reference, see Title IX and its implementation.

  71. dannyfrom504 says:

2 women volunteered for infantry officer training. one dropped on the first day, the other was medically dropped about a week into training.

One female Marine officer took an arduous billet, and her body was completely jacked when she came back.

The humps in full gear destroyed her knees and back, and she ended up writing a piece that women simply can’t handle infantry duty the way men can.

I’m 5’4 and weigh about 135 pounds and even I have to sack up to drag the 200lb training dummy in TCCC while having sim rounds fired at me and returning fire. God bless adrenalin.

I think you give too much credit. I’ll agree that most of them never think in terms of killing the host, but of those that do, I think killing it is a valid outcome. For reference, see Title IX and its implementation.

As I wrote at the same time, this doesn’t mean they don’t also enjoy getting the host sick. And this doesn’t mean they are responsible enough to avoid outright killing the host in the process. But even with Title IX, what they want is to punish the men while trying to change reality such that women’s sports and women athletes get the same mindshare and prestige. They probably wouldn’t mind a great deal if all sports went away, because then the source of the envy would go away. But this isn’t the intent. The destructive impulse is real, which is what the territory marking is. But this impulse is secondary. Part of the calculation in the case of the military is they know if they go too far (and say we lose a real war or at least a crucial battle) either they lose their base of liberalism or the enabling that Alexander and I describe would be rolled back or cease. But like children they will constantly push up to the line here, with an implicit trust that the responsible adults on the other side will keep them from doing unsustainable damage while finding a way to satiate their latest demand.

  74. GKChesteron says:

I have a good friend who is a military historian of the very un-PC variety. This is a tempest in a tea pot. These hats were used by the marines during the Boxer Rebellion. We should ignore this as much as possible.

  75. Alexander says:

The overarching problem then for feminists is that at some point, the damage their newest demands could do and so necessitate shielding by responsible adults is negligible to the damage they’ve already done – at some time feminism will have nothing more to offer than moving one pile of rubble to another corner of the ruins of civilization.

If we won’t combat this by smacking them upside the head and forcibly removing them from any decision making position, the next best thing is to accelerate the process, all the while letting them own the ‘progress’.

And thanks in no small part to legalized abortion and the west’s apparent race to demographic suicide, sooner really is better than later. It would be nice to hit rock bottom while there’s still enough hands to rebuild.

Those are “birth control hats”, I tell you.

They needed to call in the costume department from the sitcom Last Man Standing. For those who aren’t following it, Tim Allen’s youngest of three daughters is being cast as like the son he never had — she’s sensible/responsible, pro-patriotic, into exercising her 2nd amendment rights, and has joined something ROTC-like at her HS. (And she’s not into boys or any girly girl stuff.) Whatever they came up with fits the character perfectly, so you don’t particularly notice it. They somehow managed to not entirely crush her feminity without making her look entirely ridiculous.

  78. Dalrock,

But even with Title IX, what they want is to punish the men while trying to change reality such that women’s sports and women athletes get the same mindshare and prestige. They probably wouldn’t mind a great deal if all sports went away, because then the source of the envy would go away.

The beauty of sports is that you can’t bullshit your way out of reality. What do I mean by that? On six or seven Saturday afternoons each year, the population of Ann Arbor Michigan increases by about 100,000 people, each of whom spend anywhere for $50 to $500 for the privlege of sitting in a huge stadium and watch 22 boys (aged 18 to 24) hit each other. That is reality. Title IX enthusiasts would say that girls track and field is just as important which means the University of Michigan should be willing to grant 17 full ride atheltic scholarships to girls the way they granted 85 atheltic scholarships to the boys to play football. That is fantasy. Were it not for laws/legislation forcing the University of Michigan’s hand in granting those girls their scholarships, they may or may not have them. But to say that they are all equal, is to truly believe in Unicorns farting rainbows.

  79. Dalrock says:

The Marine Corps Times and NY Post articles I link to go into a bit of the history of the cover, and it was used for a short period of time as I understand it when the Corps wanted to look more French. The cover in the picture may be “paying tribute” to the French tribute covers, but it doesn’t look like exactly the same one. See the period pic in the same article. But either way, the administration is very clear that they want to change the uniform of men to accomodate women, so the fact that they pulled out a discarded feminine cover doesn’t change what they are doing, but it makes for an excellent smokescreen.

Where I do agree is at the end of the day the USMC will carry on trying to find a way to make it look like what feminists want is being achieved while also juggling the priority of actually being a fighting force. But the point of my post is the mechanism at work here, the compulsive feminist territory marking. This will be with us for the foreseeable future, and part of why it will be is each time conservative voices will find a way to explain that it really isn’t that big a deal.

  80. GKChesteron says:

Throw them out then. The hats though aren’t the problem. The USMC has also done a fine job of saying, “fine then…qualify!” I admire that.

I think if some feminists ever actually understood the real history as to why the United States Marine Corps was created and why they were refered to as leathernecks, they might keel over and have a stroke right before our eyes. That harsh, manly, hurtful, reality dope slap across the face, would cause many feminists to slip into a sympathy coma from which they might never recover no matter how many government funded agencies came along to make them whole on their feelings.

Even if they were Kepis Blanc, it’s an identifiably French hat. Nothing against the French, but it’s their thing, let ’em have it. (And no, I won’t accept the argument that the beret, as worn by the US Army, is French. It’s a pretty common head covering in a lot of military forces around the world, and worn properly, it’s nothing like the felt pizza plate hat of French painters.)

Of more concern is that the Marines are getting themselves set up for failure by trying to run women through the Infantry Officers’ Course. They are not lowering standards so all the women trying to make it through are getting shelled out of the course. After this has gone on for a while, I suspect that many in Congress, including Republicans, will accuse the Marines of sexism stemming from their even-handed application of the existing IO standards. This in turn will lead either to the overturning of the Infantry Officer standards or the creation of a women-only standard, to turn out weak Marine Infantry officers who cannot hump a ruck, dig holes and carry heavy crap as well as male officers. Either way, the Marine Corps will be forced to publicly swallow the lie, even if they choke on it.

Not true, unless you know of a NY Post article from prior to the one I link. The Marine Corps Times story I link to is dated Oct 21st, and the NY Post article I linked to (the one all of the other news stories are reacting to) is dated Oct 23rd. So unless you have a different NYP article to point to, the MC Times was first by several days. The Marine Corps Times article says:

The Marine Corps Uniform Board may recommend the adoption of a universal cover for men and women to be worn with dress and service uniforms.

The change could take one of two forms. Either women could begin wearing current male covers with slight modifications, or all Marines could begin wearing new “Dan Daly caps,” according to a Marine news release.

The movement to make female uniforms more similar to those worn by men comes as the Defense Department begins to open more roles in combat units to women.

The MC Times article doesn’t reference a NYP as a source, but they do reference a USMC news release. So spin this as all hype from the NYP, but it doesn’t fly. At the very least you will have to accuse the MC Times of creating sensation for page views, and/or sourcing from the NYP without even referencing them. But if you accuse them of the latter, you should dig up the NYP article you are accusing them of sourcing from.

  89. Dalrock says:

The current story is: Marine Corps pulls uniform survey after ‘loud and clear’ opposition

According to the S&S story, the manufacturer going out of business is the one which makes the women’s hats, not the men’s. That the solution proposed to this problem was to change to a feminine looking unisex had doesn’t contradict the MC Times assertion that there is a push to make male and female uniforms more similar:

The movement to make female uniforms more similar to those worn by men comes as the Defense Department begins to open more roles in combat units to women.

That there wouldn’t be such a push would be hard to believe. There is no serious question that the services are under incredible pressure by the administration in this regard. Even the S&S finesses the issue instead of denying it outright, but explaining that President Obama didn’t directly contact the USMC and tell them that needed to adopt the hat in question:

Marines also made clear that President Obama was not behind the potential change.

“The president in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover,” Marines said in a written statement. “We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: The former manufacturer went out of business.”

Of course President Obama didn’t personally pick out the hats and tell the USMC they had to adopt them. But his administration is forcefully driving feminist change in all of the services, and they are very open about this. That any individual rule doesn’t have his name on it doesn’t change the reality at all.

  92. Asher says:

  93. Dalrock says:

If I have time I’ll do a post on all of the outright false statements internal contradictions in the S&S article I linked to above. It claims that news outlets created an outrage when they “incorrectly wrote that men and women in the Marine Corps currently wear the same style of cover”. Really? Because all of the stories I read were very clear that men and women currently wear different covers, with the women’s cover being a modified version of the men’s.

It claims that the uproar was due to confusion due to a survey being released outside of the Corps:

It all stemmed from a survey to active and Reserve Marines about the best option for a universal cover — a cap that would be worn by men and women.

However, Murphy said Friday, “Confusion caused by the survey’s release outside the Marine Corps, and exacerbated by recent rumors in the media, compelled the board to pull the survey.”

“While there was never any desire or intent to change the male Marine dress cover, the feedback we have received has been heard, loud and clear,” Murphy said.

Ah, so the intent of the survey was misunderstood. They never planned on changing the men’s cover, they were just batting a hypothetical around. They reinforce this a bit down with:

Still, Marines say the Daly cover was added to the survey as a throwaway option.

Except elsewhere in the same article they say:

Additionally, Marine Corps and other services have been asked by the DoD to find a unisex option for a dress and service cover as a cost-saving measure, Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Neil Murphy said.

Are they saying they never intended to comply with the DoD directive? Because the only way the statement there was never any desire or intent to change the male Marine dress cover can be true is if the only option on the table to comply with the DoD was to have women adopt the men’s cover without modification. Yet the survey had two choices, the unisex “girly” cover the article claims wasn’t being seriously considered, and creating a modified version of the men’s cover. Per the same S&S article:

The Marine Corps Uniform Board had sent out the surveys in advance of its meeting next week. It asked whether Marines believe women should adopt the current male cover, with some small modifications, or for all Marines to adopt what they call the Dan Daly cap.

A (new) modification the men’s cover for use by women doesn’t qualify as unisex.

  97. Dalrock says:

The NY Post has hit back with an article titled: Marines fight to save face after ‘girly’ hat plan. They post what they claim is the internal memo leaked to them. According to the memo, the “Dan Daily” universal cap was originally developed in 2002 as an improved female cap:

In 2002 a Female Uniform Symposium identified the female dress and service caps (also known as the bucket cover) as items in need of improvement/redesign. Upon designing an alternate female cap a subsequent web survey was conducted in 2003, and 67% of the respondents preferred the design of the “improved female cap.” The new cap is similar to the male cap, in that it has a single frame with interchangeable white and olive green crowns. In 2005, a prototype was developed and a wear test conducted. The wear test ended with an online survey, resulting in a majority of respondents in favor of the improved female cap with one frame and two interchangeable crowns. In April 2007, CMC approved the improved female cap as a replacement for the current cap.

Later in the memo it explains how this cap originally designed for female Marines came to be called the “Dan Daly” cap:

It was suggested, via the on-line survey process, that the improved female cap is very similar to the uniform cap worn by SgtMaj Daniel Daly (see enclosure (2)), and would make an acceptable “universal” cap for all Marines. The cap worn by Dan Daly was in the Marine Corps inventory from 1904-1918, but its shape dates back as far as 1897. From this point forward the improved female cap will be known as the “Dan Daly” cap.

There should be no dress uniforms. It’s a silly ass idea to inflate the ego of crap ass officers and nco’s. Everyone’s duty uniform head gear is the same ( well maybe not job to job but they are unisex)

Personally the only women in the military should be whor… I mean moral specialists

I can’t totally disagree with this. Whether you are Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines, BDUs only.

I am not going to go with you on this one. The US military is the most lethal, and effective fighting force on the planet. Its been this way for quite some time (more than 150 years, actually.)

The fact that some people choose to serve for 4 or more years for other reasons does not take away from what our Armed Service does and does well. The two most common ulterior motives that I have found (for individuals) with people entering the US Armed Services:

#1) Your parents own their own home (no mortgage) which means you can’t get financial aid for college/university so you join the Army/Navy for 4 years and (since you have no room or board expenses) put away every cent you can in their college GI Bills or whatever it is they have now and when you get out, now you can have fun and you go to college for free (which is not a bad deal) or…

#2) You are a young girl and you just want to get married. You want a husband and you want one now, like RIGHT F-CKING NOW, join the military. Inside of two years they will get your body perfect and you’ll have the pick of any number of men you want and you’ll be married (again, not necessarily a bad idea or motive to enlist)

-No. You listed motives which are scenario based. These are NOT the two most common scenarios. That being said here are the THREE most common ulterior motives:

    1) I don’t know what else do to
    2) I can’t get a job.
    3) I need to get out of my parents house (see: 1 and 2)

With very few exceptions these reasons apply to every single person I’ve known who go into the Military. Everything else (i.e. Patriotism) is self rationalization after the fact.

In 2013 men go into the Military for the same reason they date fat chicks – because they have no other options. The Military also has one of the highest rates of female adultery and divorce.

At it’s core (and in theory) the military is the most honorable profession imaginable. However today it’s being used in the most dishonorable way imaginable. I don’t have time to go into it (I would be here all day) but most people reading this know what I’m talking about.

Mexico trivia. I assume everyone knows about the cartel wars down here. The local police are seldom any good, and often simply join the cartels.

We see the Army vehicles tooling along the highways. They use trucks that look like old Deuce and a Halfs. they do have automatic looking firearms. But, look like young draftees of my generation. I usually wave and smile when we pass them and often they will smile and wave back.

Their usual function is retens. Those are highway checkpoints. They put up sandbags and have a machine gun hanging over the edge. They examine cars and at times search them completely.

Usually, they look somewaht laid back. But, a year or two ago, things were hot near the border. And, they had several guns boxes, and looked alert and ready to rock and roll. The enlisted men are considered to be relatively honest, as compared to the local cops.

Federal police are a notch up from the Army. They used to run around in the back of pickups with big cages built on the back, sometimes with tarp coverings if they expect lots of rain.

Now, the Federal Police have full military gear and vehicles, except painted blue. Armored trucks, the whole bit.

If the local police in a town become impossibly corrupt, the Federal government fires them all and sends in Federal police to take their place.

The Feds are pretty tough cookies. A few years ago, a nearby village had a major murder and rape problem. Finally, they sent in a squad of Feds and with nary a shot fired, the bad guys all went to prison. They are also fairly resistant to corruption, and that is true for the Federal Transit cops asa well, unlike the local cops.

If things get really bad, and even the Federal Police can’t deal with a problem, THEY SEND IN THE MARINES WHO KICK BUTT. Seriously.

In the State of Guerrero, last year the people in a small town got tired of the local cops and drug dealers running things. So, they dug up their firearms, and took the town back. A house that was strong enough was used as a jail, and the cops and druggies were simply stuck in there at gunpoint. I am talking farmers with shotguns and machetes. Last I heard the Federal Police promised to provide police protection.

Military grade firearms are illegal in private hands in Mexico. But, I have seen more of them than in the US. The braceros apparently came back in the 40’s and 50’s, walking stiff legged across the border.

And the police and Army no longer terrify the farmers. In fact, the local police are afraid of the farmers. Not the Zetas, though that is, of course, true, too. The farmers scare the crap out of local cops who carry around full auto M-16’s in most cases. They are well aware they are out-gunned. And, when I say farmers, I mean the guys with sandals and burros and machetes.

If a riot breaks out in a small village, the cops hole up in their station, and patrols from nearby towns come running. And, large helicopters with large automatic weapons rush out from the State capitol. This happened a year ago, after a stupid cop misidentified a suspected kidnapper, and arrested a hard working farmer by mistake. The minute the streets finally emptied, which was after the state helicopters came out, they moved him to another area. No waiting for paperwork or to pack his bags or kiss his mistress goodbye. He was gone forever within minutes. Human Rights decreed later it was an abuse of authority.

I have seen weapons here that I have only ever seen on Miami Vice.

But, for the most part, except for young thugs, if you leave the farmers alone, they leave you alone.

Never spent one day in service to do anything for america or americans at large. Joined to keep family tradition alive, to see if I could make the same cut my grandfather ans father made and because I am an adrenaline junkie. Stayed because I cannot imagine surviving a regular job, by in large don’t want to be associated with those who can and because a man I respected convinced me I would keep a lot of young men alive by staying in. Young men too unaware to realize america hates them and wants them gone. It was also an excellent opportunity to educate a mentor large number of men. My favorite part of the job during the last half of my service.

Men join for a whole host of reasons, most men for more then one. College money, picking up a job skill, wanting to see war and live life on the edge are all.common themes along with wanting to escape all manner of bad situations. Ideally a man joins, lives his adventure/ gain his job skills etc and gets out ASAP. However dismissing those reasons is pure class warfare which I have come to understand is a common theme in the man o sphere. Especially in the Christain man o sphere. Or did you just mean “adventure” as in seeing another country/culture as an unwelcome invader? How exciting it must be for a soldier to patrol the streets and countrysides amongst people who have done you/us no harm, accosting, assaulting, killing, raping, and stealing at will.

As far as job skills: the Military’s rigid robotic procedures and job assignments with little to no cross training means those skills you learned from being a M1 tank specialist don’t readily transfer to the private sector. Also, allot of potential employers discriminate against ex military. It’s true. And my entire teenage and adult life I’ve witnessed a constant stream of losers come out of the U.S. military. It’s hard for them to adapt. Just ask the guy who delivers your pizza or changes the oil in your car. The other worrisome thing (at least to me) is the disproportional amount of Military going into LAW ENFORCEMENT.

These are people who spent 4 years kicking down doors in Iraq ,Afghanistan and other countries violating innocent peoples rights. What are they going to do when you argue with them over a traffic ticket? Or you refuse a search of your vehicle? Or you demand a warrant when they show up to your home? Look at the thousands of videos of police wiping their ass with the 4th amendment at will.

“Ideally” nobody joins the US Military until it’s forced to scale back to it’s Constitutional roots of providing for the defense and liberty of this country. It would be one thing if this was 1812 or 1944 but it’s not.

  120. feeriker says:

IBB said I am not going to go with you on this one. The US military is the most lethal, and effective fighting force on the planet. Its been this way for quite some time (more than 150 years, actually.)

    Ton said:

I spent 24 years on the line. We’re not particularly good, everyone else sucks

You are of course correct, Ton. It’s obvious that IBB has never spent a single day of his life in an American military uniform and therefore doesn’t have a clue what the f*** he’s talking about.
I never cease to get aggravated at the “armchair warriors” (which includes just about every single MSM talking head, on both the Fascist right and the Marxist left, not one of whom ever suited up and put themselves on the line) who belch endlessly about how mighty the U.S. military is. I’ll consider that as a possible truth as soon as “the world’s greatest fighting force[TM]” goes head to head with Russia, China, North Korea, or any other industrialized nation with a viable, modern Second Generation fighting force (and nuclear weapons armory to back it up) and the results of the first battle come in. Until then, such people would be wise to ask themselves “why aren’t Iraq and Afghanistan the de facto 51st and 52nd states, respectively, now that ‘the world’s greatest fighting force[TM] has pacified them?”

  121. Kaehu says:

Do transvestite marines wear women’s or men’s uniforms? Is this what that’s geared to?

  122. All this talk about women shouldn’t be in the military. I disagree. I want to see millions of women killed and maimed in service too their country. That’s what equality is all about. What’s the point in equality if women don’t start shouldering their fair share??? We need more women in the military. We need more women who are garbage men, more women in mine shafts, more women working on high voltage lines, more women walking high iron in construction. Too many men die and are injured on the job. Its time for women to start being equal to men.

  123. Mark says:

    @UKFred

You really ought to get out and around Britain a bit more. It’s in Wales that the men are real men and the sheep are real scared.

  124. Michael says:

    @ IBB

“The US military is the most lethal, and effective fighting force on the planet”

It depends what segment you’re talking about. Using remote controlled drones, air power missiles and bombs and fire rockets from Navy ships hundreds of miles away is certainly effective if not catastrophic to innocent civilians.

    @ LFM

“I want to see millions of women killed and maimed in service too their country.”

I understand the context of what you’re saying. But if this country were to mind it’s own business and focus on the Constitution and Traditional Principles laid down by the forefathers while creating it’s own money and promoting free market capitalism innovation and international commerce; making FRIENDS with other countries instead of making enemies around the world. Future terrorists ready to someday avenge the deaths of their parents/loved ones by a 18 year old pimple faced Marine who thought it would be “cool” to “get his first kill” by shooting someone and make up an excuse later – this topic of what kind of “hat” a Marine wears would not exist because this county would not be in the quagmire it’s in today.

  125. Mark says:

    @LFM

“”I want to see millions of women killed and maimed in service too their country. That’s what equality is all about””

Equality to me is the same number of bodybags for men and women……Women want frontline combat?…let them have it!…My biggest problem with this scenario is if you put all these wimminz on the frontlines of combat…the war will be lost!….If we go to war?…it is to WIN!…no other option…and Wimminz will not cut it!

  126. Mark says:

    @LFM

“”We need more women who are garbage men, more women in mine shafts, more women working on high voltage lines, more women walking high iron in construction””

Now you have it right!….BRAVO!……..why are there not more femi-nazis on these types of jobs?…..are they scared?…..are the jobs not good enough for the Wimminz?…..the last time I saw a womyn on a construction site she was holding a traffic flag. Why don’t they pour concrete?…..lay ashphalt??…..frame houses?…….etc etc……seems to me that they would have to compete with men?…if they are soooooo equal they would be doing these jobs?….They are BULLSHIT!

  127. Some people forget that American soldiers are just mortal men, like any other, and their equipment is just mortal made gear, like any other, and if we do stuff that weakens our army, we’re weaker. Heck, doesn’t the Abrams have a problem with weak side armor? Isn’t the F-22 program been slashed or such? We’ve got problems, like any army. Yep, technology is helpful… but if we don’t keep pouring money into air superiority programs, by nature, won’t we fall behind? And if our fighters don’t command air superiority, then everything falls apart, in a real war.

  128. @ Mark
I have no problem with the USSA losing wars. If we are overrun by foreign armies, I have confidence that the patriarchal order can take the country back. Its easier to win a battle against foreign enemies than against domestic ones.

  129. Opus says:

At 6.06 on the 15th inst IBB asserts that for more than 150 years the U.S. military has been the most effective fighting force on the planet. Might I suggest that IBB is again, being a little optimistic. On the previous thread he had the Industrial Revolution in America located to the 1860s but now not withstanding being pre-industrial it is apparently the most effective military. I am obviously not going to say who my candidate for that position might be, [hint: created world’s largest empire ever] but although I certainly do not deny that you presently have lot of impressive hardware, for most of my lifetime the Soviet Union was considered equally effective, and before that the Germans were hardly also-rans.

There is no peace with islam. It’s in their unholy book. The idea forgein folks would leave us alone is silly. Yes the usa could do a better job of not stirring other folks kool- aide but that won’t change as much as some think.

The rulers of the usa would throw out all the PC silly stuff if needs be. Right now it fits their agenda. When/ if it’s no loner required, it’s gone. Say, like when the turn on Southern peoples. Think about the rules of engagement for Wacco and Ruby ridge vs Iraq.

Russian gear is junk; Iraq round one proved that to the world; the usa did what Germany could not, feed a three front war and win on two fronts of their own. The English would be a small part of the Soviet or German empire if the usa didn’t save its ass. If the usa wasn’t ruled by pussies our empire would dwarf the British Empire, but the Brit’ s by far had the best ran empire going. Very impressive.

The usa military has only been world class for a time in the 1860’s and since ww 1. With long breaks of not so good thrown in. Make no mistake, the US military could be all that IBB thinks it is now with effective leadership. The pieces are there, but the amercian people are weak and lack the will. Not that I want the usa to turn into a world empire, I want the usa to break up and for the South to be free. However, we have a defacto empire and we do a piss poor job of managing it. I cannot stand mismanaged anything.

Russia, China etc have serious problems that a dumb grunt like my self could exploit in minutes. Imagine what a smart guy could come up with?

The problem in Iraq and Afghanistan is a lack of will. Insurgencies are easy to crush. Just ask the american indains.

There is no weak spot in the M1′ s armor. Thanks to the Brits. The only M1 crew I’ve seen die was taken out by an IED of ten 155mm arty rounds wired together. I have seen M1′ s get hammered and the men come out unharmed. Amazing machines. Got the biggest kick out of watching them crush T72′ s in Iraq. Seen more then one with scorch marks from MBT rounds that the M1 shrugged off.

Yes, life in combat zones is a rush. Every post you make demonstrates you’d never understand a hard life, high risks and the pleasures that come with it. Everyone of my grunts are doing well in the real world. Some went to college, others joined SWAT teams, many went to SD to make money in the gas fields and take on new hard ass jobs. More then a few went back down range range to make 100k plus for part time work. You would never understand even if I had the words. You have my pitty.

I am afraid it is simply nonsense to suggest that Great Britain would have been overtaken by the Soviets or the Germans; wishful thinking – not that I intend to make light of your countries contributions, belated at that – to WW2 and WW1. This thread is not the place to do history in detail, or to indulge in ‘what-if’ alternative histories, so I won’t. What she failed to recognize was how the double standard(s) work when this same structure is applied to men: if you’re proudly traditional, you’re a jerk and a cad; if you’re coyly egalitarian, you’re creepy and must have ulterior motives.

I’m also one, and I agree. My family has fought in darn near every war since the 1700s. Yankee total warfare against the South ended the old Christian principles in warfare, as they sought to exterminate the South rather than peaceably let us go.

A businesswoman trying to sell me some services once said she didn’t understand why Southerners just couldn’t “get over it.”

I responded, “Well, you know we had our own country. Our own president and congress, our own army and navy, our own post office and roads, and everything. Then you Yankees had to come down here and take it away from us.”

Opus says: I think you will find that Britain began both world wars (hegemony over Europe) and then won both of them.

Nooooooo, they didn’t. The Brits lost both of them, even with the horrendous war crimes of bombing the German civilian population and firebombing every city they could. Neither the German soldier, nor the German civilian cracked. That was WWII.

In WWI they and the French introduced chemical warfare with poison gas attacks in an attempt to crack German morale.

That’s why they had to get the U.S into both of them. In WWI the U.S. kept the Germans from winning, and then managed to break the stalemate and gain the ceasefire.

In WWII the U.S. won in the West, and U.S. aid to the Soviets [our beloved Uncle Joe – which should tell you something about the reality of U.S. politics] kept Stalin in the game in the East when he should have collapsed in 1942, or ’43 at the latest.

My point being, there are many people who live in the north who happen to very much appreciate the Southron point of view, myself being one. 176. Mark Minter says:

Corporal Johnson, a cook in the Marines, is called in front a board to answer a complaint of sexual harassment.

The female officer leading the board read the complaint.

“Corporal Johnson you were seen by a female marine, shirtless, in the kitchen off the mess hall, with some powdery substance on your torso, smashing some dough-like substance against your chest. The site of your sightless torso, in such a manner, in the chow hall kitchen, repulsed the female Marine, as well created a fear about the sanitation of the food she is to eat. She believes this is representative of sense of rape culture that exists in the military and since the sighting, she has been unable to eat because she sees the image of your shirtless male body. This has created a hostile environment for her and has damaged her fighting spirit. How do you explain these charges, Corporal Johnson.”

    The Corporal replied,

“Well, ma’am, you are aware that my unit is a self contained unit that has a mess hall due to the size of the unit, yet our area of operations is deemed too dangerous for civilian food contractors and the Marines have assigned me with the responsibility of feeding those men.”

“At approximately, 0130 hours, the post came under simultaneous rocket and ground attack. The initial rocket barrage knocked out the generators, which were not brought back online until 1000 hours the next day in time to prepare lunch. The typical pattern of such assaults is that the attackers will generally retreat right before the light of dawn. So I knew my Marines would be entering the mess hall shortly after sunup and I believe it is my duty to provide the Marines with a hot meal if at all possible.”

“So while I did not have electricity, the kitchen was lit by emergency battle lanterns, and I had sufficient propane to heat the ovens and fire the steam cauldrons. So I was able to begin to prepare some SOS (Shit on a Shingle, a creamed beef dish) over Biscuits, ma’am”

“But since the electricity was knocked out, I did not have the use of the electric mixers to knead the dough, ma’am. So I took of my shirt, put flour all over my chest and my big old Texas belly here, ma’am”. And he patted his rather ample belly that pushed limits of what the Marine Corps find as acceptable on a Marine.

“And Ma’am, I would then smash the raw dough up against my belly, peel it off, put more flour of the dough, and repeat the action, Ma’am. After 30 minutes or so of said action, Ma’am, the dough was sufficiently kneaded and I could then roll it at and cut out the biscuits.”

“At dawns light, Ma’am, as the Marines entered the chow hall I was able to serve them, our troops that had spent the night fighting off an aggressive attack by insurgent forces, a hot meal”

“I assume your female Marine must have passed while I was in the act of kneading the dough.”

    The female officer replied,

“Corporal Johnson, while I commend your devotion to duty and your adaptation to the situation, I must call in question both the sanitation of your actions, and your total insensitivity to the possibility that a female Marine might see you shirtless, and that sight of the male body might repulse her, and that she might suffer the discomfort of seeing the male body. What do you have to say for yourself before this board hands down its decision?”

    The Corporal replied,

“Well ma’am, it;s a good thing that she didn’t pass by later in the morning when I was making donuts”

    @Wibbins

    “Dress blue b’s”

Meaning the uniform worn by recruiters, embassy guards, guards on ships, and within government buildings.

So then the Marines can look like some French traffic cop to the world. Of course there would no more attacks on our embassies because the attackers would laugh themselves to death.

I would consider putting new hat (notice I didn’t call that fucking hat a cover) on my head somewhat about equal in torture as going in the gas chamber and having to take off the gas mask.

Jeez, I guess it’s just one thing I could say about the “Old Corps”. “Back when I was a Marine, in the Old Corps, …..”

“we didn’t look like fags in our uniforms. ”

It sort of reminds of a joke.

The commandants displays the uniform change and someone in the audience shouts out

    “The new hat sucks”

And the commandant stops everything and demands

“I want to know who called the new cover a hat”

    No one speaks

    Then the commandant demands

“I want the man standing next to the man that called the new cover a hat to raise his hand”

    No one moves.

Finally a man raises his hand.

The commandant says “Are you the man that called the new cover a hat?”

    The man says “No Sir”

The commandant says “Are you the man standing next to the man that called the new cover a hat?”

    The man says “No sir”

And Commandant asks “Why did you raise your hand?”

And the man says “Sir, I want to know who determined that faggoty hat was a cover”

(You gotta have been in the Corps to understand that joke.)

  179. beyond the masculinity issue is also the erosion of military history. when men put on that uniform they are putting on the history of their institution, of which they are very proud. I know that uniforms necessarily undergo changes over the centuries, but meaningless changes like this serve only to separate the present from the past. I still lament the loss of wash khakis on board ship. Instead now the sailors have “digi blues” camouflage. Because, you know, it’s good that no one sees you when you fall overboard.

  180. PS Ton wins the internet with this: “I spent 24 years on the line. We’re not particularly good, everyone else sucks”

    It’s funny, because it’s true.

  181. Late to this but just thought I would throw in some perspective. I doubt the Obama administration has anything to do with this. The USMC (and the other services as well) have boards of officers with a full time job of making changes to the uniforms. They don’t feel successful if they don’t make a big change somewhere along the way. This is what they do just because they are a huge bureaucracy. Lots of ideas, some bone-headed (black beret), some brilliant (back to patrol cap).

I am a Navy veteran and a graduate of the Naval Academy. The US military has not been the most highly skilled for the past 150 years. Anyone that thinks that is showing their ignorance. In WWI the US tipped the scales but was far from the most effective force. Between WWI and WWII the US military became a shadow force. After the start of WWII we managed to rebuild our forces and mostly won on the basis of having more logistical support than any other nation. The nmber one killer of German troops in Stalingrad was starvation. The number two cause was freezing to death because they did not have the proper cold weather clothing. The US Navy in WWII did become the most deadly navy in the world but quickly downsized. Cold war necessity, fear of the USSR, finally caused the US to build and maintain an effective force. The current US dominance is more due to the rest of the world not caring to maintain the spending necessary to have a force similar to the US one. I will wait and see if the US continues to be willing to spend.

BTW, the US Navy, and really most navys in the world, are merely trying to imitate the British Navy. The Royal Marines are not supported and armed as well as the US forces but are kick ass and totally respected. Special Forces are imitations of the British SAS and Commandos of WWII.

That being said, and in respect for my scottish heritage, the difference between the Welsh and the Scotts is that the Welsh choose the ugly sheep.

I would like to put in another word on women in the military from my prospective. In the late 70s I was serving on a submarine. We were tied up in our home port with the squadron tender at the end of the pier. I was topside chatting with the very attractive young female doctor that served on the tender. As we talked a platton of new recruits were marched past us on their way to the tender. The delicate, intelligent, lady like, and very sophisticated young doctor said, “Damn it. More F***ing women. If they aren’t getting pregnant they are getting VD.” I think this speaks for itself.

More post-HuffPoo fallout, this one actually by Gavin McInnes himself: This Country Was Not Built by Beta Males (which he never does get around to explaining)

A hat tip to you and Ton. Too bad we can’t exchange emails, I’d buy you both a beer and swap some yarns.

I tell people when I’m overseas and they ask where I’m from, “I”m from the U.S., but I’m not a Yankee.” Usually have to explain, but they are happy that we Southerners also are not happy with the Yankees.

Well your old hats look Russian and the new ones look French. Hang a hankie off the back and just pretend your as tough as a legionnaire etranger (or whatever it is in foreign).

We do wear skirts into battle, and much else where there’s a danger of the Crown Jewels getting wedgied. It’s however strengst verboten to wear panties. Anything with a gusset is, essentially, womens’ wear.

Martian Bachelor – I read the “This Country Was Not Built By Beta Males” piece by Gavin McInnes. I noticed this comment he got from a woman:

“I’m a woman and with you…to be taken seriously as feminist (one) must act like a man. Regret giving up family. Too late now.”

This comment broke my heart – so sad. You do not see this kind of stuff in the media that is directed at women (at least, I have not seen it), and this is exactly the kind of stuff that women need to know. This woman is honest, takes responsibility for her bad decision and would probably have made a great wife and mom…. This is such a loss to our society.

Check out the memo the NY Post published which they claim is from the uniform board. According to the memo, the “Dan Daly” cap started off as a cap for female marines back in 2002. As you point out, the wheels move slow for things like this. The same memo also indicates that the DoD was pressuring the USMC to adopt a “universal” cover. So, no Obama didn’t call up the Marines and tell them they needed to put women’s covers on the male Marines. But his DoD did put immense pressure on them to make the service more friendly to women in general and to adopt a “universal” cover. The Uniform Board responded to this pressure by proposing (as one option) that a cover designed for female marines 10+ years ago be renamed and repurposed as the “universal” cover for men and women.

All of this is very plain in the memo. The only question is the accuracy of the memo. But either way this isn’t mere conjecture on the part of the NY Post, and the only part exclusive to the Post is the information on the cover being a design intended for women back in 2002. There doesn’t seem to be any disagreement between any of the articles that I’ve read that the DoD was pressuring the Marines to adopt a unversal cover, and that the cap pictured on the right was the only “universal” cap proposed.

That comment reminds me of a cartoon I believe from Mad magazine from the 70s. The tourist guide was apologizing to American tourists about the “Yankee go home!” graffiti, and the man answered back, “That’s OK sir, we’re from the south.”
