The Daily Mail has a funny article bemoaning the 50 Shades of Grey movie as too tame. Fifty Shades Of Grey is deemed so tame in France, children as young as 12 will be able to see it in cinemas*:
In a barrage of reviews published on Tuesday night, most of those who sat down with the raunchy adaptation ahead of its 13 February release date lamented its ‘run-of-the-mill’ lovemaking.
One critic pointed out that sex only makes up 15 minutes of the two-hour runtime. Another pointed out that there are no visible genitals, no orgasms – and not that much nudity.
Conventional wisdom is that women want their porn to be softer and more romantic/emotional than men do. This fits with the misconceptions that women’s sexual desires are purer than men’s, and that romantic love purifies sex. To the extent that women are found consuming hard core porn, the argument is that marketers must be forcing this on women. 50 SoG has shattered this myth, and proved that if anything the marketers were standing between women and the raunchy porn they desire. The book began as a work of fan fiction, as Vanity Fair explains:
[E. L. James] created a compendium of her sexual fantasies, called the book Fifty Shades of Grey, and watched in shock as the book and its two sequels (Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed) sold more than 100 million copies worldwide
The book was an end run around the marketers. It was just one woman writing her deepest fantasies, fantasies which millions of women around the world shared. But the movie is a return to the world of marketing, where the gatekeepers can again impose their view of what kind of porn women really want. The director and the author are widely reported as having been in conflict throughout the production of the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
James is said to have pressed for more explicit sex, while Taylor-Johnson pushed for a more subtle approach.
Based on the criticisms in the Daily Mail article it sounds like James lost. Even so, it was still dubbed the raunchiest film of the decade:
The ‘raunchiest of the decade’ accolade was awarded the film after website Mr Skin, which ranks films by amount of sex scenes, released data seen by the Sunday Times.
However, the film’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, has said that although the film is true to E L James’s best-selling book, it may not be as explicit as people might be hoping for.
That the raunchiest film of the decade isn’t raunchy enough for women should give people reason to reconsider the popular misconceptions about women’s sexuality. However, I doubt many will be willing to consider something which so thoroughly goes against the dominant paradigm. The NBC News story on the movie’s rating managed to overlook the fact that women made a work of BDSM fan fiction into a worldwide sensation, and instead reminded readers that 12 year old boys have dirty minds:
And that’s how 12-year-old boys across France suddenly became very interested in cinema.
*The Daily Mail headline reminds me of the line in The Dictator where he describes a particular instrument of torture as having been “banned in Saudi Arabia for being too safe”.

Couple this with wild (drug abuse and sex with any living creature available) for proof that feral women are the most debased perverts in our society.

Well this means people have high expectations when it comes to their porn…or they have become so desensitized to degeneracy stuff like that is considered tame now.

@Earl
I don’t think so. I think what this shows is the kinds of things in women’s fiction which are seen as acceptable in written form become too obviously obscene when brought to the light in a film.
Ah, so the visual medium is a couple years behind in the coming out of women’s sexuality. Right now, I guarantee, is a producer within this medium, realizing that the time is now to ratchet up the debasement of women for profit. And so long as in the end, she tames the badger, as opposed to the shrew, it will be a huge money maker.
I predict that by 2020, FSOG will be looked upon as a children’s bed time story.
Earl, thanks for the link. Wonderful post, and the marketing for the movie she recommends is fantastic!

Or you could say…they love the idea but hate it when the idea becomes a reality and it isn’t all flowers and unicorns like they thought.
Amazing:
A raunchy book written by a woman, for women, about the deepest sexual fantasies shared by countless women… a book that turned into an international best-selling series of books (primarily based on purchases by women)… made into the “raunchiest movie of the year” even after being “tamed” by the male director under protest from the female author… a movie which will be seen primarily by women…
… and the writer of the article takes a cheap at… 12-year-old boys and their dirty little minds.
Feminism has always been about treating grown women as adults when it comes to rights, and as children when it comes to culpability and responsibility – are we now at the point where they have tacitly admitted that grown women are at the same stage of sexual maturity that boys reach at the age of 12?
I’ve always laughed at the idea that “girls mature two years faster than boys,” as if there was any basis in science or experience for that. It seems to me that the opposite is more likely to be true: not only do males mature faster than female on average, but females stop maturing sooner.
@Lyn87
The director has a male sounding name but she is actually a woman. But the point remains, that taming the book was not what the women looking forward to the movie wanted.
‘I’ve always laughed at the idea that “girls mature two years faster than boys,” as if there was any basis in science or experience for that.’
Physically that’s usually a yes…everywhere else that’s most likely a no.
No one said it yet so I will. Heartiste formally known as Roissy always said that women were the more feral and wild sex at their core even though men seemed to be more so on the surface. Maybe some of our ruling elite either subconsciously(most likely) or consciously(least likely)don’t want you to know this as it pertains to this “50 Shades of Grey” movie. If too many men think of women as whores or sluts to be pumped, dumped and nexted or simply ignored, then too many women will lose their support after the female imperative comes under attack. Watch civilization as well as marriage rates collapse even faster after that happens. The only way women will be supported after that if men still wish to support them which many men won’t is for women to submit to men’s authority and the patriarchy. Women don’t want that either. Most American women do not wish to submit to men and to live under the patriarchy, but they don’t know how to make the matriarchy and their authority over men work for themselves or anyone else either, The matriarchy is failing and civilization is falling. Such is life.
Lyn, I look at the maturation process similar to you but different. I do think, on the whole, girls do mature ahead of boys, but as you state, the process seems to now stop at about 22 – 24 years of age. Where as men seem to continue to learn from their mistakes and keep on maturing until death.
Why weren’t the sluts lining up for von Trier’s 6-hour Nymphomaniac epic? As usual they don’t know what they want until they are told
On Facebook many of my Christian friends, both men and women, have latched onto some kind of feminist “FSOG promotes domestic violence” bandwagon. I doubt there is any merit whatsoever to this thesis (and couldn’t care less about reading the book or seeing the movie to find out), but this seems to be the socially acceptable way for feminised Christians to voice disapproval of the new movie.
You see, it’s socially acceptable to disapprove of FSOG when you are pointing at the sin of men (who upon seeing the movie will all suddenly think domestic violence is great) but to criticise FSOG for other reasons comes too close to maybe pointing the finger at women. It just can’t be that so many women entertain fantasies of sinful liaisons; that we should disapprove of FSOG because it encourages women to indulge this sin. Clearly women, having innate purity, would never fantasise about anything like that if not for men who put those thoughts in their minds with the goal of making them their domestic violence victims.

Back in 08-09 time frame many of the “Christian” women on Facebook where doing those single word color of the day posts as if the guys were to dumb to know what they were talking about. Then Grey came out……and in their minds we’re still not supposed to be wise to what’s up.
I’d say women are more feral based off the fact they can be deceived easier and they are indecisive. They want monogamous marriage and the party-assorted men lifestyle. Failing to realize everyone will pick a path and get the results of that path.
“The #1 movie in America was called ‘Ass.’ And that’s all it was for 90 minutes. It won eight Oscars that year, including best screenplay.”
[D: People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!]
With feminists, submission and women and porn the lady doth protest too much…methinks
Dalrock,
Thanks for the clarification. The rest of the point still stands, of course: 50SOG is a female-driven phenomenon. The fact that the female director wanted to tone it down just means that she understands film as a medium better than the book’s author. As has been noted, it’s one thing to write erotica: it’s another thing entirely to show it on screen. I haven’t read 50SOG, but we’ve all been exposed to descriptions, previews, and excerpts, and even from that it’s clear that a faithful rendition of the book in all its details would have to be triple-X… basically “C**-Guzzling Sluts 3” with a plot and a bigger budget. (I just made that up, but I’m not going to Google it to see if it’s a real movie – it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.)
What amazes me most about this is the way people managed to work the “men are pigs” trope into the narrative. “12-year-old boys are going to see this because they have dirty little minds”… or “Men who see this may think it’s okay to tie women up and whip them.” Implicit in that is that the millions of grown women who created this smutty juggernaut don’t have dirty minds, or that women don’t fantasize about being sexually dominated by men who will take them beyond their comfort zones.
Rule #1: Everything bad is the fault of men.
Rule #2: When women do bad things, refer to Rule #1.
Isn’t Hollywood always like that: consider the novel of Less than Zero and its Movie; in the novel our hero just cannot be bothered even as he observes underage orgies, murder and that sort of thing; in the movie he is committed and trying to save his buddy from a life of drugs or compare a movie I much like, Don’t Make Waves and the novel from which it is supposed to have been the movie, Muscle Beach; only two minor characters remain, the rest being entirely new. I can only suppose Hollywood has an idea of what is saleable, or perhaps women are being deliberately protected from what they may enjoy. I went to see Last Tango in Paris and to my amazement the audience seemed to be largely female.
Why haven’t we figured out to throw their psychology back at them when they make these statements about men instead of taking the defensive stance.
‘Women are going to see these movies because they have dirty little minds.’
‘Women who see this think it is ok to be tied up and whipped.’
And if my statements are wrong…why am I wrong?
Kman-
Seconded. Many of our female tradcon fb friends “dislike” the movie because of “misogyny” and objectification of women.
While it’s true that girls, on average, experience menarche about a year sooner than most boys begin puberty, that is a one-time event, and even then there is considerable overlap between the sexes. Having been a teacher for grades 5-12 at various times in my six years of teaching children, I observe that the process of maturation does not favor girls nearly as much as is popularly portrayed by the “girls mature two years faster than boys” meme. I’m not convinced it favors girls at all. It is certainly not true that 6th Grade girls are as mature as 8th Grade boys, and 7th Grade girls as mature as 9th Grade boys, etc, on a one-for-one basis. That’s just nonsense.
Anyway, I don’t want to drag this discussion off topic. My point was that feminism requires that women be absolved of their agency whenever they do something harmful, illegal, or embarrassing… and the go-to example the writer used to describe the people who will go to see 50SOG was dirty-minded 12-year-old boys, rather than the hordes of grown women who will be the actual viewers. And as KMan noted, “Facebook Christians” also found a way to condemn the movie by positing that men (who won’t be watching it nearly as much as women) might get the “wrong” idea about women want, rather than that women actually want the smut they’re paying to read and watch.
This type of BDSM movie (mommy pron) is nothing new. Hollywood has mainstreamed this stuff in the past.
Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke did a similar movie in 1987 called “9 1/2 Weeks” and about 20 years later Maggie Gyllenhall and David Spader did something similar called “The Secretary.” I have no desire to see this movie but (if I had to guess) the actual acting in “50 SoG” will be far less than what we got from Kim, Mickey, Maggie, and David.
By the by, they were already lining up to get tickets for the midnight showing. Ridiculous.
Perhaps those who barely read books are figuring out what many readers have already known.
‘The movie never compares to the imagination you built up in your head while reading the book.’
As far as 12 year old Europeans go…. (shrugs shoulders) ….if the parents of those 12 year olds in France aren’t wise enough to know that their kids have no business watching this crap (and prevent them from doing so), then those kids have much bigger problems in life than their government allowing them to pay money to watch smut.

Since the women who made 50SOG into the publishing phenomenon that it is are not going to get what they think they’re paying for, are we taking bets on whether the movie will flop once word gets out that they removed the parts that made it appealing to the target audience in the first place? I see a couple of possibilities:
1) Women will go see it anyway because of the hype.
2) Women will pass on it after an initial big opening, and lay claim to being virtuous for having done so, despite the fact that the real reason they don’t go is because it’s not smutty enough.

The local Adam and Eve store has an entire section devoted to “Fifty Shades of Grey” and they can’t keep the stuff on the shelves.
I was at a charity event and there were baskets being sold that people had donated and the Fifty Shades basket was the one that was fought over.

Not to be too clinical but it is true that directors and their studios have to do some contortions to ensure an R-rating at times since the MPAA board can be very capricious and inconsistent.
Even if a somewhat clinical act or position is “tastefully” presented it could still risk an NC-17 due to “context.” So Ms. Sam may indeed have been constricted not to make too “hot” a version and have to incur $$$ out of her fee to do re-edits to qualify for an R.
The usual suspects for an NC-17 threat are: male tumescence, or what looks like actual penetration of someone by something on-screen. Lengthy female nudity, especially so-called “full frontal” can qualify. Male nudity is OK for an R if it’s fairly brief (and limp). Yet a movie about sex researcher “Kinsey” featured an on-screen graphic of an erection, yet there was no problem getting the R.
Two examples of silly NC-17 fights: though it had no nudity at all, “Clerks” was deemed too raw for an “R” at first because of its constant sex talk/jokes; it got re-rated R “on appeal.” For “South Park”, the MPAA demanded certain naughty jokes be cut to get an R; the authors just reinserted the jokes in other scenes and got their “R” anyway.
Porn will expose women the same way it exposed men.
They are either turned on by their actual spouse…or they are turned on by a creation they made in their imagination.
Women used to have discretion about it which is why it was kept under wraps for a while…now they have open season to unleash this behavior.
I had forgotten about Secretary. It does, does it not bear more than a passing resemblance to 50SoG: Disturbed young woman enjoys being submissive to someone who enjoys being dominant. *Spoiler Alert* Reader she married him, but I think the best thing about it is that Maggie Gyllenhal looks ordinary though in a not unattractive way.
Dave,
(sigh….) I was in high school when it came out, typical hypergamy. Typical mommy-pron fantasy, probably just like 50SoG.
You had your divorced housewife (Kim) with her Bullsh-t, do-nothing, feminist job (trying to sell artwork in a gallery) and she could afford to work a job like that (that could pay her nothing) because “Bruce” (her ex-husband whom she frivorced) gives her enough alimony to live with a roommate in NYC.
You had the mysterious, great looking, wealthy, Harvard educated Wall Streeter (Mickey) who lives on the East side and does Arbitrage for a living (buying and selling of money.)
He “woos” her by buying her a $2000 scarf from a street vendor, you like that would EVER happen for many women.
He fulfills one of her “rape-fantasies” when she starts slapping him and hitting him he just holds her down and “has her” until she is “emotionally subdued.”
Kim contronts Bruce “her Bruce” because he winds up sleeping with Kim’s co-worker at the art gallery even though Kim has already frivorced him and is boning Mickey Rourke. She still believes he must remain chaste for her just-in-case she ever decides to take him back. There is this ever so touching moment where the two of them are just looking at each other and Bruce is filled with shame.
Then Mickey Rourke and Kim start to roam into areas of pure BSDM and trans-gender roles (he dresses her up as a man with a fake mustache and takes her out to dinner like a business meeting) and they even get into a knife fight with two hoods (and of course, because of Kim’s Lara Croft heroics, they win.)
This mommy pron crap goes on for nine-and-a-half weeks, just like the title, until Kim “dumps” the rich, great looking, Harvard educated, Wall Streeter for… no one. She just grows weary of him not introducing her to anyone he knows. So the whole time, she as a submissive, has all the power. So feminists and you-go-grrls, just love it. I’m going to guess (without ever reading the book or ever watching the movie) that 50 SoG is pretty much the exact same thing.
Opus,
Exactly. Its the same thing. She’s a secretary and he is a lawyer with his own practice. Just pure hypergamy, coupled with submission (on her part) to a dominant AMOG. This is mommy pron.
“9 1/2 Weeks” = “The Secretary” = “50 SoG”
Same movie. Same plot. Just different actors and actresses.
@IBB
…and is it not also more than coincidental that the lawyer in Secretary is also called Grey. There will never be a movie about a male typist (is there such an animal?) who marries his female lawyer boss.
Does, bu the way, this use of the surname Grey for SM movies derive from Eleanor Smith’s The Man in Grey which Gainsborough filmed in 1943 with sadistic James Mason and dashing Stewart Granger.
Meh. I’m waiting for “50 Shades of Neeson”:
“I don’t know who you are. I don’t care what you want. I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long life. Skills that make me a fantasy for people like you. You are going to be taken…hard!”
Grey is also used as a spelling for that color and personality traits. Americans spell it gray more.
4 lacking cheer or brightness in mood, outlook, style, or flavor; also : dismal, gloomy
b : prosaically ordinary : dull, uninteresting
5 having an intermediate and often vaguely defined position, condition, or character

@Lyn87 –
This is a little after-the-fact since I didn’t find this discussion until just now, but the context that I’ve usually heard the “girls mature two years earlier than boys” line in is classroom behavior, especially in elementary school. As in, six- and seven-year old girls are able to sit quietly in a classroom for long periods of time, and not engage in classroom-disruptive activities like running around (or wriggling in their seats) like the same-age boys do. In other words, girls are well-suited for classroom settings… but boys would be better off learning in a different way, at least early on. (As they grow, boys usually become able to control themselves a little better, but girls are usually more “well-behaved”, as a teacher means that phrase, in the classroom than the boys of their age. Note that this does NOT translate to “more emotionally mature”, just “doesn’t make my job as a teacher nearly as hard as those boys over there”.)
So when you hear the “girls mature two years earlier than boys” line, you usually know the person is observing a real phenomenon (classroom settings are designed for feminine learning styles rather than masculine learning styles) but not quite understanding the full ramifications of this fact (boys really should get to learn in a different way than American schools usually try to make them learn).

“The Daily Mail has a funny article bemoaning the 50 Shades of Grey movie as too tame. Fifty Shades Of Grey is deemed so tame in France, children as young as 12 will be able to see it in cinemas”.
This is probably because the French invented BDSM so it’s all so very yawn-worthy to them by the time they hit puberty.

As little as 20 years ago maybe. The internet changed all that. Ask your daughter!

Whoa Dalrock, check out McMegan’s Valentine’s Day article!!!!
http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2015-02-13/happy-valentine-s-day-now-cut-your-losses
She specifically said if you are a 24 year old woman, this article does not apply to you.
Prime dating years. Gotta keep some of the feminism even though what she is saying is partially patriarichal.
” So the whole time, she as a submissive, has all the power.”
Subs hold all the power in D/s relationships. They are the ones who make the sexual rules, the do’s/don’ts, play the safeword card. It has to be that way otherwise serious damage can be done to health or even an accidental death could take place. Both have happened. The BDSM world is a risky dangerous one. I’ve dated a few chicks who wanted to go that route and I’d have nothing of it. I shudder to think what the dating scene will be like in five years. I look at little kids today and just shake my head at their future.
Needs more blood, eh?
“Wonder if anyone’s looking into sex toy sales by gender! Ding-ding ding!. I think a gender studies major just got their master’s thesis approved!”
There’s no thesis in that. Women have always dominated the sex toy industry. Walk into adult store, its 75% geared toward women and their toys. Now they’re working on some sort of virtual holographic technology where they can have virtually real sex with a Jamie Dornan hologram. I wonder if it will come with a holographic mansion, helicopter and billion dollar salary as well?
Re McMegan’s article.
Wow, so advice is not for a 24 year old woman? So she’s free to waste her “prime dating years”? Sounds like the 30s are still considered “prime dating years.” I have a friend in her 30s who is still telling her on again, off again boyfriend of at least 8 years (if not 10) that she wants to get married “some day.”
The “porn” here as much about the relationship as it is the actual act of sex these two characters engage in.
FSoG is a pretty typical female fantasy; mousy woman tames alpha bad boy, with a big helping of emotional trauma on the side. It’s not appealing because she’s submissive, it’s appealing because she “fixes” him, turns him into exactly what she wants him to be, suffering nobly along the way. At the end of it, she is the one in control. Female erotica, especially the kind that focuses on heterosexual relationships, explores control. I’d also say, these days, it explores transgressive behaviors, which of course, FSoG’s imaginary BDSM world offers just enough of without crossing into uncomfortable territory, similar to that sluts/good girls divide in actual relationships.
As a side note: fanfiction is a weird phenomenon in general, but it highly useful in analyzing women’s sexual fantasies, precisely because there are no filters on it. Child molestation, bestiality, incest, forced infantilization, etc, are prevalent. There are a number of truly bizarre things too, like male pregnancy or a/b/o, that seem to be either disgusting or beautiful, depending on who you talk to. Doesn’t help that the “genre” is getting increasingly mixed up with the queer rights movement.
jbro,
Did you catch that? I sure did.
But I have hoep for her. She’s close. She’s close to going full Patriarchy here. She even said so in her first footnote of her article. I’ve been giving Megan McArdle red pills for about a year now over at Bloomberg. And her posts are less and less feminist, each time.
If I can get her to turn away from the Dark Side of the Force and come back to the light, then maybe I can get others?
IBB, I try to persuade women all the time. Isn’t the first stage of grief denial?
“The “porn” here as much about the relationship as it is the actual act of sex these two characters engage in.”
I’d say it’s even more about the money. 27 year old billionaire – how realistic is that, and what woman wouldn’t want it to be true?
“or a/b/o, that seem to be either disgusting or beautiful, depending on who you talk to.”
a/b/o? Dare I ask?

This article makes some good points but then veers into the pedestalization of romantic love that Dalrock is warning us about.
“True Love is never about using another person for your own pleasure—physically, emotionally, or otherwise.”
Clearly false. Never deriving emotional or physical pleasure from your spouse? That marriage sounds like a blast. I would rather have the one as described in Song of Solomon.
This is more of the “true love is chaste love” that is being pushed everywhere from churches to Disney movies.
“You are worth authentic love… There is nothing authentic or loving about violence.”
Violence is most definitely authentic. Few things are more authentic. Side note: anyone who talks of authenticity as a virtue is being anti-biblical.
Violence can obviously be loving, Prov 13:24
Even in the context of sexuality within marriage, if it is what your spouse desires, it is loving to provide it (within reason). I think the success of the book show that apparently a great many people fantasize about rough sex now and then.
jbro,
You cannot persuade them. You must (unknowingly to them) un-brainwash them. That only happens with red pill thinking and red pill communication. Talk ONLY in red pill terms to a feminist (cause-and-effect, incentives and disincentives) and (if she keeps talking to you) you will gradually un-brainwash her. You can’t argue with the truth. You must simply accept it on its merit. Its the only way.
Jbro,
What I mean by that exactly? Look at my posts over a Bloomberg. See how I am phrasing things? You’ll note, no one is arguing with me. They either say nothing and give me karma, or they concur (on some levels) and give me karma. Red pills.
“You are worth authentic love… There is nothing authentic or loving about violence.”

Yeah what’s up with the use of words like “authentic”, “congruent” and “values” these days? They are all value-neutral worlds but are they supposed to be proxies for words like “moral” and “virtuous”?
And Megan McArdle would do well to tell not just 24 year old women, but even 20 year old women to start planning NOW – with an older guy. The problem is that women 20-24 think men 26-32 are “old”. I’m surprised the Christian Grey character was made as old as 27 but I guess it was just a bit too unrealistic to imagine a 21 year old self made billionaire. So the author got “edgy” and made him an “older” 27 year old. As if that’s practically anymore realistic.
@Rollo
The link about porn and churches/conservative areas is an ecological fallacy.

What they/you conclude might be true, but the data offers no support for or against it.
Celebrating porn for women with hundreds of articles. Honestly, the Muslims are right, we are the Great Satan. Its ridiculous.

“Most American women do not wish to submit to men and to live under the patriarchy, but they don’t know how to make the matriarchy and their authority over men work for themselves or anyone else either”
False. Most American women (including professing Christians) have no trouble submitting to a male boss (they prefer male bosses even more than men do), or male professors, or male politicians, male police officers, etc.
The average American woman (including professing Christians) has no trouble submitting to a man, as long as that man is not her husband.

“I have a friend in her 30s who is still telling her on again, off again boyfriend of at least 8 years (if not 10) that she wants to get married ‘some day’.”
They obviously deserve each other.
No, surprisingly, it doesn’t appear there were ever any sequels.
But you’re right: if you film literary porn, you’re going to get movie porn, unless you cut out the guts of it.
These theaters full of women hooting and grunting just strike me as trying too hard. It’s just like Magic Mike and the other movies that women supposedly got so hot about — they’d get together in groups to go see it, and cackle loudly about how hot they were gonna get, but it never sounds authentic. More like they’re all trying to convince each other that they’re not prudes, and the only way they know to do that is to act like they think men would act.
“The average American woman (including professing Christians) has no trouble submitting to a man, as long as that man is not her husband.”
It’s the extramarital part of that submission that makes it acceptable and intriguing to them.
“It’s just like Magic Mike and the other movies that women supposedly got so hot about — they’d get together in groups to go see it, and cackle loudly about how hot they were gonna get, but it never sounds authentic.”
Magic Mike didn’t have the elements 50 does. Sophisticated baby faced eight pack abs Wall Street billionaire CEO. The strippers in Magic Mike were just a bunch of beer guzzling rednecks.
Cail,
Women didn’t really pay to go see Magic Mike. “Gay” men did.
Another socially conservative take on the “50 Shades” movie:
‘Fifty Shades’ A Cry For Help From Women Betrayed By Feminism
Working at a clients house today whom is in the movie biz, the scuttlebutt is that they are already lining up production for sequel 2 and 3 of FSOG.
Thought you’d like to know
” But the movie is a return to the world of marketing, where the gatekeepers can again impose their view of what kind of porn women really want. ”
In fairness to the marketers, they have to get the final cut past the MPAA to secure an R-rating, a process that is infamously unfair to certain kinds of movies, for which 50 Shades would seem to be the poster child. No way that a story whose entire reason for existence is to flout sexual mores goes all the way and escapes with an R rating.
For a longwatch riff on the MPAA (introduced to me, I should confess, by the bluest sort of blue pills outraged on behalf of leftist causes), watch the “This Film is Not Yet Rated” documentary.
Pingback: 50 SoG movie panned as too tame. | Truth and co...
It is evening on Valentine’s Day, 2015 as I type this, and the first-night reviews of 50SOG are in.
Vox slams it with this satirical headline:
Fifty Shades of Grey is brilliantly hilarious. But it’s not clear if this was intentional.
Followed by satirical prose such as this:
Since 2011, when the first book in E.L. James’s trilogy was released, we have endlessly heard about how readers (primarily women) were consuming James’s novels, even though they were written in a style that might be called “word salad with lite-BDSM dressing.” The words were meant to make you blush — and keep reading chapter after chapter, like a competitive eater reaching down for the next set of chicken wings.
and this:
Jamie Dornan plays the strange billionaire/creature known as Christian Grey. The two actors often feel like they’re stuck in different films. Dornan spends much of the movie furiously knitting his brow and glaring with his cold eyes, while Johnson comedically fluffs up the pensive scenes Dornan tries to ground.
IMDb gave it only 2 stars out of 5.
It did a bit better with Rotten Tomatoes, which gave it 3 stars out of 5. (Roughly on par with Jupiter Ascending and The Wedding Ringer and far below the rating given to the latest Spongebob Squarepants movie. A few comments from critics quoted on the RT web page:
A desultory dud, that swaps out [the novel’s] prolonged and explicit intercourse for tame (conceived as tasteful) inserts, padded out by the troubled relationship between a straw man and blow up virgin.
…
How about Fifty Shades of The Grey, with the two vapid protagonists forced to contend with Liam Neeson and a pack of ravenous wolves?
…
It’s an episode of Red Shoe Diaries with a major studio budget. It’s a Lifetime movie with insider art pretensions. A Harlequin romance with anal play.
…
It’s been said that the movie contains 20 minutes of sex; if this is the case, it must contain at least 40 minutes of Ana biting her lip or putting a pencil in her mouth.
…
Presumably the sequels will explore forbidden taboos like “character development” and “plot.”
Rolling Stone has apparently taken a break from publishing false rape stories long enough to write this:
… a dull, decorous affair, about as erotic as an ad for Pottery Barn.
(In the immortal words of Larry the Cable Guy, “That there’s funny… I don’t care who you are.”)
Is this film destined to flop? Inquiring minds want to know!
” padded out by the troubled relationship between a straw man and blow up virgin.”
Experiencing simultaneous explosive laughter and envy of the wordsmith who put that together.

“Another socially conservative take on the “50 Shades” movie:
‘Fifty Shades’ A Cry For Help From Women Betrayed By Feminism
Fifty Shades of Grey is for women frustrated by the consequences of feminism and a sexual revolution that didn’t turn out like we expected.”
Yeah I read that piece. The “socially conservative” columnist is complaining that the movie is too tame, not sexy enough, and there’s no real BDSM in it. She also laments we as a people are not having as much sex as we should be post-sexual revolution, ” Fact is, I bet we are having less sex per capita than any time in human history. Sexual revolution my arse.” And laments the lack of bad boy alphas without oneitis for ordinary gals, “Couldn’t it be that women who like the horribly written, emotionally stunted Fifty Shades business are simply throwing up their hands and admitting they wish men would just take charge again? They’re just as sick of the confusing labyrinth of dating rules and sexual manipulation as men are. They want to be lost in a relationship, completely submitting to a man who is dangerous enough to need rescue but loving enough to notice what makes them beautiful.”
This “socially conservative” movie critic wants her cake and eat it too, just like all women.
IBSB: “As far as 12 year old Europeans go…. (shrugs shoulders) ….if the parents of those 12 year olds in France aren’t wise enough to know that their kids have no business watching this crap”
If they don’t watch it, and complete the social-attitudes questionnaire, they don’t get their 75cl (pint-and-then-some) ration of Bergerac or Cotes-du-Whatever with their free communistical halal school lunches while crouched on the obligatory Peppa Pig prayer-mats.
That’s the Law round here, in this here Europe Of The Imagination that you Septics have most obligingly created for us.
So we don’t have to bother tediously explaining what actually goes on.
How did us “Septics” create Europe? What did we do and why am I a Septic?
DeNix : “Working at a clients house today whom is in the movie biz, the scuttlebutt is that they are already lining up production for sequel 2 and 3 of FSOG.”
Oh my. I had the good fortune to see a Tommy Wiseau double-bill on Saturday. The great man insisted on shaking my hand after (/humblebrag). Honestly, everybody had a lovely time, entertained, engaged and astounded, to a man, woman and hipster. And still way more realistic, credible and moving than SATC. Or Star Wars.
I think I just found the dream ticket for those productions. Director, star and cast. In one lurid dayglo package. They should do lunch.
“The dialogue is just – ear-scrapingly – Bad” .. “George Lucas would have rejected it” [Mark Kermode, the other day, on 50SOG]
Apparently at La James’s insistence. Professional copywriters’ amendments and treatments of her relentless special-needs drivel were revoked and deprecated, to maintain artistic integrity. lol. lol. lolzlllsolozlzl lol.
Oh well. who’s laughing now? Everyone implicated in this fey abomination is on track for oligarch-level wealth. Because women.
But to take the crown from Ed Wood, and Thomas P.? I don’t think so, girly.
Females go gaga over a porn novel and you can be sure that young men have noted that the content of said porn is what interests females. There’s no “Yes Means Yes” in the 50 Shades of Grey rape fantasy novel and that’s been noted too.
Let’s be honest, a whole lotta cases of morning-after regret “rape!” are little more than an inexperienced young man trying to be her fantasy. This porn novel that females have been snapping up only makes things worse.
Septics are “Septic Tanks” (WW2 rhyming slang).
You personally did not create this bizzare and unfeasible “Europe” that is used to belabour its feckless denizens as a terrible warning from history, if “people” (i.e. Americans. There isn’t any other kind) don’t take heed of Demagogue #832’s hectoring.
We leave that to Fox News (“Birmingham England is a pure muslim city, with sharia law”). But you’re happy to believe it, and any other shit you’re told, if it fits the bill.
Cool. We don’t actually give a fuck.
Like with this “French schoolboys sneak into atrocious wankyspanky film” story.
I don’t know any French people who don’t know where their teenagers are every minute., of every day. It’s quite stifling and oppressive for us Island-Monkeys. Maybe the Dutch, or the Latvians or something are a bit less chaperoney, more like normal people (i.e. brits).
Particularly girls. It’s a habit with most continental Europeans. Who knows, the Nazis (or nearest equivalent) could rock up at any minute?
They do everything en famille. Everything. That’ll be .. everything. Cine, restaurant, vacances etc. [Except adultery, naturellement].
Continental kids do not roam the streets all day and night, drunk or sober.
Brits, as usual, are a bit *ahem* .. “special” in this regard.
OK maybe in the furthest reaches of la France profonde. But they won’t be watching bad pr0n movies. Or any other sort. I doubt they even have mains electricity, or shoes. Shooting songbirds, abusing farm animals and setting fire to the woods I’d guess, all those good wholesome traditional country pastimes.
Listen mate.
If ” somebody” tells you that this or that terrible thing is happening in “Europe” (where ever that is, eh?) and that we’d all better take care, or else we’re next … do me a favour, and kick them in the cunt.
“bizarre”, that is.
[Been on the M1/M6 for 24 hours, in lashing rain and dark. Dropped the keys into my boots and started on the tins while catching up on the ‘rock, there you go]
Tam has been,
on the M1/M6 for 24 hours
No offense, Mate, but the entire island of Great Britain is quite a bit smaller than the U.S. state of Oregon. Unless one is just driving in circles, how is it possible to be on any road over there for 24 hours, particularly the motorways? Unless you’re driving laps between Northampton, Leeds, and Bolton, I should think you would have driven into the sea already.
Anyway, don’t believe what your hear about Fox News over there, either. It’s the only major network that even tries to show more than one side of an issue… for which it is roundly condemned for it’s “conservative bias” here and, obviously, where you are. Apparently the Atlantic Ocean swallows much of the content and all of the context of any message that makes it across… either way.
“There’s no “Yes Means Yes” in the 50 Shades of Grey rape fantasy novel ”
No but where there is is pages, and in the movie, a large chunk of time, negotiating the do’s and don’ts of what each partner wants and doesn’t want.
“Let’s be honest, a whole lotta cases of morning-after regret “rape!” are little more than an inexperienced young man trying to be her fantasy. This porn novel that females have been snapping up only makes things worse.”
The argument is if the inexperienced young started drawing up sexual contracts, like in the movie, things would get better. I can’t believe I just posited a possible positive outcome from this crap Hollywood movie.
“how is it possible to be on any road over there for 24 hours, particularly the motorways? “
Down, up, turn around, down, up, turn around. Services, Southwaite, Birch, Woolley Edge, some layby near That London. Oh and was on the old A1 at some point, Scotch Corner, fekkin satnav. It’s huge now, football coaches turning up and everything. Not just a greasy spoon with a few wagons and a fat bird doing tea, eggs and sausage.
Like a second home to me, got blankets and a proper skinheads’ Antartex for a couple of hours kip every so often. Don’t like motorways, can’t stop for a piss. Or a pint and a cig.
