Children understand.

Anonymous Reader notes that Let it go is well loved by modern Christians:

I have not yet encountered a single churchgoing person in my social circle who has a problem with “Frozen” the movie or with “Let it go” the song. Not one. That includes a couple of families that are part of leadership. Pointing out the “no rules” part is like describing the color “purple” to someone who is blind. They literally can’t see anything wrong – perhaps because “It’s DISNEY” or something. I’ve gotten blank stares from people over 40 but also parents under 30. It’s bizarre.

I don’t think the messenger makes the message palatable.  It is the message itself that is loved.  Women and girls learning how to throw off all rules and inhibition is core to our new morality.  The song isn’t loved as a guilty pleasure;  it is loved as a bold moral declaration.  Stop trying to be a good girl and learn to worship yourself is a moral exhortation.  As Vox pointed out in The devil that is Disney:

Disney is run by literal satanists preaching Alastair Crowley’s “do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” to children. They are one of the primary engine’s of the West’s degeneracy and decline. It is not an accident that everything they touch, in every industry, turns into morally radioactive slime.

Children, including Christian children, understand this best of all.  They know what their parents worship, what their parents see as righteous (even if their parents fall short of living the ideal).  They know that Frozen and Let It Go is a morality tale that teaches them about our most sacred beliefs.

With this in mind, it shouldn’t be too surprising that when Baptist minister Ross Chandler* in Marble Falls, Texas asked children in his congregation to explain part of the Bible, their response very quickly devolved into the song Let It Go.  Even more telling, Chandler was so delighted with children confusing the words of the Bible with the words of Disney, he made it into youtube video.

As Today observed:

Who knew the New Testament had so much “Frozen” in it?

*Not to be confused with Pastor Matt Chandler, also in Texas.

And it’s the same as the old trick…no you won’t die….when you throw all those off you’ll be like God, knowing good and evil. At the very core rebelling against God starts with ‘my will be done’.

In the context of the film itself, the princess that sings it is at her low point. Having been placed under unjust restriction for her whole life, she breaks and casts off restraint. (As happens to those raised under legalistic Christianity without proper balance of Law and Gospel, who tend to break toward liberalism and/or licentiousness.) The princess exiles herself to a miserable loneliness thinking thereby to obtain the freedom she’s been denied. Her arc for the rest of the film is the resumption of responsibility. In context, the song is a fitting portrayal of rebellion of which the character must repent.

But, musically the song presents the words as an anthem. Visually, the film has the princess becoming becoming beautiful and creative. This is incongruous with the lyrics and the narrative context. So much so, it sticks in the viewers’, especially the young, female viewers’, minds independent of the meaning in the story. Rebellion becomes the resulting meditation. Lex orandi, lex credendi.

“No right, no wrong, no rules for me” is a reasonable credo for a superhero who can shoot lethal ice powers by force of will. If I could violate the laws of conservation of matter and energy, I would be quite eager to throw off old morals too. Better yet, the Green Lantern could assert “No rights, no lefts, no reality for me” because the Green Lantern (at least in the oldest version) can rewrite reality to suit his imagination, limited only by his willpower. Sadly, for people who are limited by the laws of thermodynamics, personal willpower is no match for physics. Furthermore, the herpes virus doesn’t seem to care much about human willpower. You can indeed gain various short-term advantages by acting against “common sense,” but if you throw away traditions in a moment of enthusiasm, be aware that tomorrow will come, bringing physics and biology with it, at which point you may be worse off than you were before.

  5. Grampy_Bone says:

I’ve explained this to multiple people–“Let It Go” is the VILLAIN song. It’s supposed to be the character Elsa embracing her evil. But the songwriters just couldn’t imagine a woman dominating society as anything other than a good thing, so they composed the song as very positive and uplifting. The whole movie ended up getting re-written because of that song, with the villain getting transferred to some random guy who wants Patriarchy blah blah traditional marriage something something.

The result is a movie that is a tonal mess and generally unsatisfying to watch.

Not so sure about that. Homosexuality was normalized in part by having likeable celebrities come out of the closet The velvet mafia told NAMBLA to stay away from Gay Pride parades at first, as the message was not palatable at the time. That said, now that they’ve secured the beach head and everyone looooves homosexuals, NAMBLA is coming out of the shadows. Expect likable pedos to soon show up in movies and cable TV shows (broadcast will take a little longer) and how they will be shown in a sympathetic light, and we will be told that “they’re just like us”

To sell something, you have to package it the right way. Hence the slick Disney movies with the very well composed and performed ballads.

Yes and no. As you say, packaging is essential when the message isn’t already agreed to. But the feminist message in Frozen is already a well loved message. The packaging helps, but as Anon Reader points out when you point out the feminist message you get blank stares; Why doesn’t this guy love the great message of the movie? Contrast the unreserved love for Frozen’s feminist message with the much more mixed reception of the gay message in Beauty and the Beast earlier this year. Frozen was not controversial. Beauty and the Beast was.

  8. inertial says:

The song is taken out of the context. In the context of the movie, Elsa’s decision to Let It Gooooo is shown to be a tantrum. It’s a horrible decision that leads to (spoilers alert) near death of her sister and near destruction of her kingdom. Elsa has to come back, assume her responsibilities, and save the day at the last possible moment.

Frozen is quite conservative in other ways, too. For example, one of the big messages to girls is “don’t fall in love with a guy you just met.” And True Love in the end turns out to be totally not what one would expect of a Disney movie.

Now Tangled, on the other hand…

  9. Annie says:

I would say the packaging in this case helps make it more mainstream, almost incontrovertible. If Elsa was pure villain, she could be a “cool” villain but lyrics of a bad person aren’t just accepted without question. When Elsa is shown scared and lonely, locked in her room, and the townspeople are unjustly afraid of her, then she’s a sympathetic character, everyone must support her and feel sorry for her, and subsequent actions (or songs lyrics) are unquestioned. Because don’t be mean and judgmental. It’s how they rehabilitated Maleficent in the live-action version (disclaimer: didn’t watch the movie) – the king betrayed her and stole her wings (supposedly rape-ish), so now she’s a sympathetic character, and everyone must understand why she would curse an innocent baby. Any sin can be explained away, so don’t judge or you’re a meanie.

If they wanted a “girl-power” story though, why they didn’t stick with the original Snow Queen? The children were friends for a long time (mitigating a chief complaint of feminists) until the boy was poisoned with a piece of magic mirror and stolen by the queen. The girl went on a long dangerous journey by herself, perfect opportunity for adding ridiculous scenarios for her to be strong, brave, clever, etc. etc., and save the male character through sheer girl-power.

The only thing I can think of is they might know even little girls aren’t impressed by nancy-boys. As I said on the previous post, I was surprised that Kristoff (from Frozen) was portrayed as fairly masculine. He was big and strong, had a difficult job, saved the day more than once, and seemed quite sensible compared to the naive Anna. I was expecting much worse, I didn’t think they allowed that sort of thing anymore.

“The actor told fans on the social media site: “As you guys know, I’m a pretty strong and confident person but even I have a story to tell. A male star, in a position of power asked me to go into a room with him and then asked me repeatedly to stick my finger up his ass.

Rebel is not her birth name. I suppose it’s her stage name.

    And she is quite fat.

  12. Frank K says:

Frozen was not controversial. Beauty and the Beast was.

I suppose that for some it was. But given the box office receipts that the live action Beauty and the Beast drew (over $1 billion world wide) I’d say that it was fairly well received.

But I will concede that the message, that girls kick butt and should be able to do whatever they want, does resonate positively with Churchians, even the ones who pound their chests and claim they are “Bible Believing”

  13. infowarrior1 says:

We were discussing the difference between Disney movies with a male main character vs a female main character. There are very few with male main characters (no one wants to be a Disney Prince) but those that do have a very different message. Tarzan, Lion King, Sword in the Stone. These characters weren’t rebellious and headstrong. The Lion King actually portrayed a good father figure (shocking)! They were victims of circumstance and had to overcome. (Sword in the stone was a bit rebellious because Merlin leads him to disobey his father but the boy always tried to do the right thing.)
Compared that Little Mermaid, Tangled, Beauty and the beast, Finding Dory, etc. all rebellious girls who save it all in the end.
Actually Finding Nemo vs Finding Dory is a study in and of itself. In Finding Nemo, a weak father must keep facing fears to save his son and needs the help of Dory and Nemo to succeed. I’m Finding Dory, the moral is “do what Dory does” (actual repeated line from the movie). What does “Dory do?” She just takes action without assessing the situation in any form or fashion. Leap without looking……and of course everything turns out ok.

Think they are sending focused messages??

Yes, it was awful. But the point is, IT’S CRAZY POPULAR. Including that song. So the dissonance of which you refer is clearly the mental condition of many, including those in the Church.

  19. DrTorch says:

“Tangled, …rebellious girls who save it all in the end.”

Tangled is not the movie to criticize. I suppose she’s rebellious, but circumstances are more than a little odd.

Lived in SF for a LONG time. Been to many a “pride” parade while living there (1996-2007).

NAMBLA was in the parade back in the 1990’s but they were advocating for the reopening of “bath houses” so it was “okay”

I recall in 2003? 2004?? In the parade they were chanting “By consent. Not by force!”

The culture at large has been being groomed for a long time concerning the issues of “sexualizing” children. I remember the Calvin Kline billboards in 1994…..the models looked barely 12 years old.

Every Pixar type of movie always has the “hip hop” breakdown song which is really isn’t appropriate for children. My young cousins watched the “Mickey Mouse Club” in the early 90’s. The topics, dancing and the like were hardly appropriate for that age set.

Aberchrombie sells racey looking things for little girls….

These are just a few examples. Another decade and “man boy love” and “man little girl love” will not be fully accepted but it won’t be criminal

Pastors are clueless dopes when it comes to grasping the true meaning of secular music lyrics, especially those lyrics with ambiguous (on the surface) meaning or that contain double entendres. Worse still is when they endorse secular songs that have lyrics that sound spiritual, but are actually coded euphemisms for really ugly things.

Example in point: About two years ago, a pair of teen girls at church performed Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” during the Sunday morning service. Seriously, I kid you not.

Apparently, what passed for “adult leadership” somehow was bamboozled by the title, not knowing the story behind the song, nor having ever listened to the lyrics. I was going to talk to the pastor after the service to register my extreme disapproval, but didn’t get the chance. Fortunately, it appears that somebody (or several somebodies) beat me to the punch, because thankfully there hasn’t been a repeat of such wretched nonsense.

The whole “wise as serpants” thing just hasn’t caught on in the modern American church.

Imagine this: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Biel and others – all have been through Disney and had weird mental meltdowns. The women have modelled in lingerie for soft-core shoots as soon as they turn 18, indicating pre-planned and therefore pedophilic intentions. Nickelodeon is probably a great deal worse.
In short, it is the entertainment industry that sexualises children far more than any other institution on Earth.
I have heard a rumor that Disney has bought 21st Century Fox. If true, it will mean that the (only?) conservative News channel, Fox News, will be drastically re-tooled. Expect feel-good stories about gay inclusiveness and trannies reading adorable stories to children in libraries.

He wants to go soon again with his son and his wife. I should have asked him if he celebrates halloween. He and his wife and son attend church every week! I guess maybe some people are afraid of what they will find out. See no evil, hear no,,,

  26. Anon says:

    @Spike
Disney bought 21st Century Fox’s Movie and Entertainmemt Television divisions. The core news channel was never on the table, and giving up the entertainment sphere is hardly gonna lead to a back slide: Seth MacFarlene’s dreck has been aired by the cartoon division for over a decade, Disney literally can’t make anything more degenerate than what they already were reduced to.

  27. Cane Caldo says:

Yeah. It is a subversive movie. As everyone who has read a fairy tale knows: Ice Queens are villains. Frozen is pro-villain propaganda meant to teach that villains aren’t really so bad, just misunderstood and under-appreciated. In this worldview, the problem isn’t that Elsa is a villain, it’s that she has to obey others, and that she’s not in charge. Once she’s given the lead, everything will work out and we’ll recognize that villains are just misunderstood heroes.

  28. rachel says:

Elsa is also a witch but we are taught, in the movie, that magic is not something to be afraid of but rather something to embrace and use for good. Not surprising that it is simultaneously teaching rebellion which is ‘as witchcraft’.

Dalrock likens Feminism to a pumping operation. Is he just a misogynist or is he correct?

YouTube encourages me to view certain videos and over the days weeks and months my curiosity wavers and so I have viewed many videos on many subjects including though not necessarily limited to: Hi-end Hi Fi, low-end Hi-Fi, Vinyl, Cameras, Railways, Model Railways,. Airlines, Remote Controlled Aeroplanes and most recently Radio Hams. No matter however what I watch the presenters and the characters involved in these videos no matter whether they are white or black, Anglo or otherwise are always men. It was only when I once came across a video presented by a hair-flicking woman that this palpable fact struck home for me – especially when on hearing the voice of the female presenter it became obvious that the presenter was no more female than I.

To the equality theorist (male feminist) this can mean only one thing; that men are deliberately (as usual) oppressing women but the question I would ask the equality theorist is: ‘very well, men are oppressing women but what evidence would you accept that explained the different interests of the two sexes by virtue of their innate difference?’. The equality theorist would never be able to give an answer because for him there can be no difference and so he will assure you that those middle-aged chaps enthusing over (say) aesthetically awful pre-war speakers – or as the case may be – can only have deliberately excluded the non-existent females. He would also explain the following in the same manner: I was with my girlfriend – some years ago – and I purchased at the door of a venue two tickets so that we might attend a Record Fair. We entered but after no more than a minute or two my girlfriend informed me and without even looking at never mind ‘digging’ a crate that she would now be leaving and that when I had left the fair (probably an hour or two hence) I could see her at her home. This is how men abuse and exclude women.

Opus. I am an avid audiophile. Collector of vinyl. In the USA we have “record store day” once a year.

It has been around for decades. Lately it has become like a comic convention. All the represses, deluxe editions of classic lp’s. Commercials on YouTube. I was once a day where shops would have specials, a sale.

Hipsters of course claiming now they rediscovered vinyl…….it never went away in my opinion.

The owner of the local record shop got info about the upcoming “record store day” and it talked about how they are trying to appeal to women and girls to get them “psyched” about records.

Most of the special releases for 2018 are geared to women. Alanis Morrisette, Carole King, Liz Phair, Spice Girls, L7, Four Non Blondes, The Cran ( freaking awful) berries. Sheryl Crow.

Do I like the about artists? Some. What I don’t like is the agenda driven behind it that the reason why women don’t collect vinyl is some deep, hidden sexism and all the men who collect and own shops somehow got together to keep them out.

One shop in SF is owned by a woman and her marketing plan is “we want it to be safe environment for women”

    WTF????????

How is a record shop an unsafe place for women???????

  36. Pennywise says:

As an astute commenter had mentioned previously, the song is taken out of the context. Certain Christians are getting bent out of shape by its alleged “subversiveness”. Vox of all people ought to know better, as entertainment companies make and create what they want for their audience, just as he is doing right now with Alt Hero. If you do not want to view it, or have your kids watch it, fine.
But Disney are not “satanists”, nor are they facilitating degeneracy and decline–people are doing that all on their own. As far as Matt Chandler’s church being a “sham to Protestantism” or today’s pastors being “clueless dopes”, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. You can’t stop it or prevent your little girl form seeing this stuff, as it is ever where. If taken for entertainment only, if has some value. I think it comes down, in my terms, proper parenting – don’t let the sports & entertainment complex be the role models for your children (thanks Sir Charles Barkley). You have to be that for your children yourself, and make sure your children know how & what to expect in terms of behavior….and that you do not support the feminist agenda and their cultural Marxists theories, and they are not necessary “right” nor just. In other words, be consistent with your values, make sure your children understand and live by them, and also that they understand entertainment is just that…and not a way of life in the real world., and not something to emulate.

I will do my best to ensure that Olympia is a safe and secure environment for any woman – not that I expect to see one other than at the cake and coffee stand!

As for my girlfriend @Heidi storage: My gf told me that when a teenager she was a Tom-Boy and would on entering class roll around the floor pretending to be Starsky. I fail to see that she has any male characteristic; she loves shopping and make-over and gardening shows but is bored by record fairs. I cannot imagine a boy pretending to be (say) Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music (except in jest).

*Olympia is a massive set of halls in Kensington used for exhibitions and has its own underground Station. I am not even into Vinyl.

One shop in SF is owned by a woman and her marketing plan is “we want it to be safe environment for women”

    Gunner Q,

I am glad to see those companies sued out of existence. The copyright issue doesn’t really interest me. My problem with them is that they had/have a very ridiculous and superficial view of evil. The focus was ONLY on “bad language”. They thought that if they just overdub the movie so John Travolta and Sam Jackson say “shucks” rather than “fuck”, then Pulp Fiction magically becomes a wholesome family film. There companies, and those who bought their services, are emblematic of the idiocy, degeneracy, and lack of discernment which has invaded modern Christianity. These are people who swallow whole the messages of Hollywood, but get upset when their hear the words shit, fuck, or damn. They swallow the camel whole, but strain out the gnats.

  49. Heidi says:

Sorry to clog up the comments section, but here’s another woman trying to mess up her 6-year-old son:

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/i-dont-know-if-i-can-raise-a-good-man_us_5a09c7cae4b0bc648a0cae52?section=us_parents

“When I became the mother of a son, I thought I’d dodged a bullet. All I had to do, I figured, was make sure he never raped anybody, and I’d be OK. These days, that seems like a pretty tall order.”

“Even the men whom I love and trust seem tied up in knots about this gender business ― one gets the impression they are constantly fighting against their instincts, carefully choosing their words while I carefully arrange my face to receive them so that we can all feel good about remaining friends. To be intimate with these men is to always be waiting, a little, for the microaggression that may or may not come.”

Barf. At least the son seems to be fighting back, though he’s only six.

  50. seventiesjason says:

Opus. Know about Olympia. Every collector in the States who has a flair for British music knows of this fair!

My cousin in Cardiff joked with me over Skype a few years back “yeah, yeah….I’ll be the only one to openly admit is since we are blood related….we still overall have bad teeth over here (he has a subpar smile) but we have better music, better clothes, better style and we speak properly. You Yanks and Canuks have ruined the best and most powerful language the world has ever witnessed”

    Couldn’t argue that 😉

  51. earlthomas786 says:

I’m not giving up ― in fact, I’m this close to having a man-to-man real talk moment with a 6-year-old about how he should never masturbate in front of strangers or co-workers ― but there’s a whole screwed-up culture to fix if we want “raising good men” to look like more than fighting a desperate battle for our boys. Especially if we want to win.

Man-to man talk with her son about masturbation? It’s to the point I think feminism is a mental illness.

  52. earlthomas786 says:

That was from Heidi’s article. The amount of mental insanity these feminist mothers have is astounding.

  53. Gunner Q says:

    Mountain Man @ 2:49 pm:
“The focus was ONLY on “bad language”.”

They did a couple other things like remove the nude scene in Titanic. Simple stuff like that. But you’re right, the very fact they could make a living from doing so is proof that many people will gladly hump the devil if only they can use a condom.

    Say ‘what’ again, mothertrucker!

  55. seventiesjason says:

If her six year old son is masturbating in front of strangers he’s got some serious psychological problems already. More than likely caused by her parenting.

Saw this in the early 1990’s when I was student teaching 2nd graders (I wanted to be an elementary school teacher). Single liberated mom furious with me at open house night. Calling me some unprintable names. Tells me to never correct her son. The following school year she’s demanding the “school psychiatrist” to put him on medication because “she can’t control him”

  56. seventiesjason says:

Nothing. Nothing breaks my heart more for and about young boys now being medicated up with drugs. It’s insanity. Med time at the schools is frightening here in California. Line wraped down and around the hall from the nurses office. We all wonder why there is a meth problem. You are giving children speed to calm them down.

Many of my Boy Scouts were medicated as well. Many had no reason to be. Most….no, just about all were from “single mother” households

If I were king a bunch of doctors would have their licensed pulled and would be thrown in jail on general principles.

You are only speculating here, as you are not the Lord nor know exactly what he will do for each of us at Judgement Day.

Undoubtedly some of our religious come across in that manner, but not all or most of them.

Most congregations do not take this approach to their worship nor work with the Lord. You are going to have to be specific as far as what church actually engages in the behavior you describe, because from my experience, your anecdote is far from the norm.

  58. Oscar says:

    @ Heidi

That fruit loop is right to doubt that she can raise a good man. She can’t.

  59. seventiesjason says:

You and I will disagree Pennywise. Bible studies don’t focus on sin. They focus on “being the men called us to be”

Specific? The Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church, many Presby churches, the COE. Many AG churches. Most non denom Christian churches.

Even my tradition in The Salvation Army. Plenty in the Officers Corp who have zero business in these positions.

Few protestant churches now even sing traditional hymns. It’s all drums, guitars, keyboards and a performance.

We will disagree. I am sure you will refute me and since I have not visited every church and met every Christian personally I cannot “judge” or paint broad strokes.

I am not going to snarkilry reply. I will say most churches are filled with pew warmers. If indeed the amount of Christians there are in church in this country every Sunday……we would set the world on fire. Some of the most unrepentant people sit in church every week….and way more than few are in the pulpit.

    (overnight reflections)

One of the most unexpected developments musically, in my life-time has been the rise and dominance of Anglo music such that in any part of the world should you go to a record shop the majority of discs will be Anglo and probably, at that, majority British.

Although London was a major centre for recorded music, when I was growing up most British artists merely provided cover-versions of Americans tunes. The first Beatles LP has a fair number. Worse still the British artist would adopt an American accent for the purposes of the recording. By way of example as I was listening to it again the other day Dusty Springfield has on ‘Say i won’t be there’ a real southern ‘twang’ on a tune which incidentally is not American (18th century French to be precise).

… and mentioning the French, I spent my summer holidays in France and in those days in French record shops almost all the discs were of French origin and E.P.s only (with nice covers) at that as the French found singles somewhat beneath them – which is how my I first acquired items for my small collection of ‘ye-ye’ music.

I find this all very odd and (disclaimer) have little interest in popular music.

  67. earl says:

If her six year old son is masturbating in front of strangers he’s got some serious psychological problems already. More than likely caused by her parenting.

It probably comes on the heels of Louie CK admitting he did that. That’s the problem with feminist mothers…they think one degenerate man doing something like that means that all men do that.

A 6 year old boy doesn’t even know what that is all about…much less what would he learn from his mother talking about that. She doesn’t have a clue…and it started from her ‘man to man’ talk. She’s not a man.

  68. Opus says:

Recorded Music is – I have to give honours here – like The Telephone entirely an American invention and our His Masters Voice previously The Gramophone* Company but now EMI were originally merely agents for the importation of the discs and playing devices. It is somewhat strange then that the logo of many RCA discs has the famous portrait of ‘Nipper’ listening to a Horn speaker because Nipper was not American but a dog (and like Cary Grant) from Bristol in England and appears on all the HMV discs.

*Gramophone is English for what in America is a Phonograph.

  69. earl says:

In fact if you ever peak behind the curtain…feminist mothers are often the ones who have the most inappropriate sex talks with their children.

  70. Oscar says:

    @ Earl

Feminists think all men are degenerates because they associate exclusively with degenerate men.

  71. Broderick says:

If I may, gentlemen, return to the original topic of Frozen. I think it’s instructive to contrast Frozen with the masculine archetype of the previous generation’s (my generation’s) Disney hit: The Lion King.

Lion King is a classic coming-of-age story: a boy is sent into exile after his father is killed and his throne has been usurped. Later that boy, now a man, returns to reclaim his rightful place from the usurpers. This is classic mythology, a key archetype in Western civilization reflected from Homer through Shakespeare to the modern day. We can all relate, because the righteousness of Simba’s cause and the process of becoming a man reflect the human experience.

Frozen has none of this, and by contrast is a horribly confused mess. Frozen is best summarized as: “Magically empowered girl chafes against societal constraints holding her down. She rebels and sends the kingdom into chaos. She later repents because she feels sorry for hurting her sister, and magically everything is better.”

First, Elsa has no righteous cause. She is a villain. The entire plot revolves around her feelings (she is mad and rebellious, she is sad and repentant, the end). Second, if we are to take this as a female coming-of-age story, the concept itself is horribly misguided. There never has been such a thing as a female coming-of-age archetype, because girls become women simply by virtue of sexual maturity. This is still considered true (one might even argue, more true) in our feminist culture. Therefore, it’s clear that this can only be a story of feminist empowerment and redemption (but only after society recognizes and accepts Elsa’s super special powers, naturally). The entire plot is pure feminist mythology. The complete tonal dissonance of the movie (the most egregious example being “Let It Go” superimposed on the height of Elsa’s rebellion) is another topic for another time.

Mythologies reflect and distill the human experience into stories that resonate. The success of the new nonsensical mythology of Frozen clearly shows how far Western culture has been usurped and degraded by feminism in the last 20 years.

  72. earl says:

The entire plot is pure feminist mythology.

Rebellion is at the heart of feminism. It was at the heart of the fall of man.

The greatest story and event that happened in human history was an example of obedience to the Father (The Passion).

  73. Broderick says:

The greatest story and event that happened in human history was an example of obedience to the Father (The Passion).

Precisely. “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42).

Rebellion is at the heart of feminism. It was at the heart of the fall of man.

I agree. Rebellion and sin are absolutely reflective of the human condition, and thus critical features of mythology. However, in traditional mythology, rebellion is seen as a destructive force from which the protagonist must turn. The feminist mythology still draws on some truths in the human condition, hence its appeal to many and its great danger to society, but twists these truths into half-truths or outright lies. To wit, the (true) rebellion is (falsely) glorified. This lie is itself a rebellious act, which is naturally praised in this perverse reversal. Up is down in feminist mythology.

And I should correct myself. Feminist mythology is not, in itself, new. Our culture merely reflects a new strand of age-old paganism: goddess worship, fertility cults, temple prostitution, Asherah poles, and so on.

I’ve read ‘wild at heart’ and I didn’t agree with the exact premise that every man needs a challenge, a beauty to rescue and a purpose to fulfill.

What I did agree with was that as a man you do need to find what makes you indeed “you”

This is not easy nor is there a direct path to this. The book also fell into the classic pursuits and attributes that make a man “attractive” to women ( football, rugged, tall, a hunter, a cause greater than himself) which 99% of Christian men are not.

I don’t believe that a mid level manager in a county or state job at fifteen said “you know, when I grow up I want to be a mid level manager in the county waste department”

Nor do we live in a culture where women have to be “rescued” and even back in the homespun era….women were not all being held captive by vicious wolves, Indians or evil slave traders

I agreed with the book on the premise that men do need to find, use, grow, nourish the gifts and talents God gave and that can be the path to so many other opportunities to find other areas of interest and grow skills, and discover new ones.

I also liked how it was mentioned…..only once….but it was mentioned that “no man has ALL the gifts” though in church culture today it seems to be the pastor has all of them….and the other men only have gifts when the pastor, the women and the like allow men to use their gifts.

I did like the notion that it was never too late to find manhood.

I do dislike how too much is put on being a man on how funny you are, how many women you’ve bedded and oversized Ego has defined manhood in the culture in general. Maybe it’s always been that way. Maybe I would think differently if I was a man who was funny, or was accomplished on the bedroom. Who knows.

The biggest step for me I guess was when I did leave the bubble of college and grad school, moved far away (and never moved back home) and began to handle my life is when I felt grown up.

The “wild” side…..when I got involved with Scouting as a Scoutmaster. That really made me a better man. Then again, I wanted to leaf a Troop that did the outdoor stuff.

    They almost certainly will.

He had to learn to deny self, take up his cross, and follow his (F)ather.

This is public service announcement for Jason:

Today I attended Olympia and much reflected that Jason was there with me at least in spirit. The bad news Jason is this: I much wanted to attend as I probably will never again have reason to visit the place because this is the last record fair to be held there and also because Olympia means something more to me as I spent a week of my life – morning and afternoons – there, sitting my first Law exams. In those days – and as I was then dating the barely-legal daughter of the Chief Examiner who confirmed the same to me – only one half of all candidates were allowed to pass. How times have changed where now a failing student sues his teacher for incompetent teaching and where a loss of students financially ruins an institution! (UMiss) Where his daughter now is I have no idea but and without any obvious assistance form her father I managed somehow to be amongst the successful.

The better news for Jason is this; that the fair is moving to The Royal Horticultural Hall in London’s Victoria and it unlike Olympia is a vast airy hall with natural light – and actually rather nice.

I took the opportunity to see how many women were in attendance. I would say about one in forty. I can see why women may feel intimidated at a record fair. This is what happens. Say there are fifty tables of six feet on each side. That is 12 * 50 which equals 600 feet . Then say that a man has a width of somewhat more than a twelve inch record, say one foot six or even two feet. This means that as soon as you have three or four hundred men some are going to be waiting for a space. When a space opens up one must quickly assert ones right to a space at the table. You already begin to see how women will respond to this male aggression for a space especially as, because the men will have their heads down they will not be observing who might also be wanting a space i.e. a woman. Worse still offering a woman the space will be seen as creepy but it gets worse. Women treat any unintended bumping which of course happens all the time as sexual harassment. The solution is of course to hold separate fairs for men and for women but the female fair will be very small and only require one table as there are just not sufficient copies of Mamma Mia and the Frozen soundtrack to take up much space.

At one point I was standing near a table when a nice looking tall woman turned to me and smiled. Women keep doing that: I am not sure why. I was about to apply all the Game I could muster but her boyfriend (of whose existence I was previously unaware) materialised. He was much taller than me . Bitch. Later still I was sitting in the coffee shop when another not unattractive female arrived and as so often happen the rather thin skirt that she wore had risen up between her black tights and her coat.Of this she was unaware. I gave my usual far away look but inside my alter ego was already having sex with her there in the cafe. it was not rape however as at least in my ,mind it was entirely consensual at least on my part for I was already suffering for One-itis but I was prepared to marry her and make space for her in my harem for I am a natural polygamist. I always seem to have room for just one more which incidentally is also the case with those small objects of desire namely 7″ gramophone records. I came away with a copy of Jailhouse Rock in a Japanese pressing and the cover is soooooooooooo cute – so Japanese! I had to have it and surprisingly though I often have multiple copies of Mr Presley’s recordings I have never previously had a Jailhouse Rock – those adjacent major chord would not secure a pass in any examination in music harmony.

Thanx for the update Opus! Really means a lot! My father who is now 81 sent me his “speakers” from his stereo system. I got them on Friday! It was a quite a surprise. I have been “asking” for them for a long time. His reply was always a flat and forceful “No!”

Well, two boxes arrived each weighing sixty pounds……….and inside were the speakers, with a note “Son, you have earned the right to these! Enjoy!”

The speakers are a set of 1972 ‘Advents’ from the Henry Kloss labs and workshop. My dad purchased them at the end of 1971. They were the speakers I first heard music on. Audiophiles here in the USA love them. My dad got a newer system in the mid 1990’s after I left home, and he put the ‘Advents’ in the attic and covered them. There they sat until he shipped them to me. The speaker cabinets are solid wood. They were some of the best home systems speakers ever made for the mass market…..and they were engineered for vinyl playback.

So, I got them. One of the speakers (the woofer) has deteriorated and needs to be rebuilt (which I can do). The cabinets are MINT. Not one scuff, scratch or scrape. The original “grills” are flawless without defect. The old man gave me the best gift he could have! I now have a part of him always with me…….even when his time comes, and he is no longer here!

    Happy guy I am.

When I do arrive in the UK I plan to buy records, thrift for cool clothing (early / mid 1960’s mod threads in particular) go to a “northern soul” dance and take in the sights.

It all depends on “who” bumps a woman. He has the looks of Jude Law???? No, there would not be a problem. However an average looking bloke? “He’s a menace that needs re-education, and sensitivity training for toxic masculinity and he just can’t leave women alone!!!!”

I leave the poor creatures alone………..even the cool indie-chick-barista at Starbucks who always gives me a smile and tries to chat me up when I get my drink. She def has a “neo-Mod” look to her. She has commented about my scooter when I have parked out front. I’m old enough to be her father, and I just assume she does that because I’m not a pain in the butt customer…..also it’s her job to smile and be nice to the customer…..I dropped a Patti Boyd reference to her once. Clueless look on her face.

So Opus, thanks so much for directing a comment to me! I have to say that I am a bit envious! Always good to hear your commentary and banter on here 😉

Well thankyou Jason. I suppose you also have a parka (seeing as you are a Mod)! Those Advent speakers are heavy! I merely have (and have had for longer than I would care to tell) a pair of Wharfdale Denton XP2s – which the BBC once used as Monitors – not my pair, of course.

I found (by the way) much variation and lack of consistency between the different sellers in the price of items, today’s prized item being A&M’s pressing of The Sex Pistols* God Save the Queen which was on offer at just over a Thousand Pounds Sterling – a Small Face* album was going for £300.00. It is the desirability plus rarity which creates the value but I rather suspect that when the Baby Boomers finally all die prices will be no higher then they are presently for say Easy Listening.

I have two Buddy Holly stories (which I wont repeat) and telling one of them to a dealer today he informed me that each year he attends a fair in Clear Lake, Iowa (the place of Holly’s tragic plane crash) where he sells to Americans early British pressings of Holly which he collects during the year. Should you be in Clear Lake, Iowa give him my regards but don’t pay his prices – consider the profit he makes when he first must pay his air-fare accommodation and probably custom charges.

*Are Sex Pistols and Small Faces names recognisable in America?

  86. seventiesjason says:

The “sex pistols” much more so. Put the word “sex” in anything in the USA and you have most Americans attention.

I am a huge “Small Faces” fan and most Americans have no idea who they are. I fell upon “The Faces” through my mother of course. She liked them. Even my DJ name is a Small Faces / Mod reference (DJ Top Face). I purchased a few years a back a mono copy of “Ogdens Nut Gone Flake” (1969) from the UK….and spent almost 200 us dollars for it.

I have two parkas. One winter and one summer. Both are olive green. On both I have my “Cymru” patch on the one shoulder with the RAF target showing my “Mod” sensibilities. On the other shoulder on both, my round fisted “northern soul” patch “Keep the Faith” and our local “club” insignia “Notown Soul Club” (as in fresNO, “Notown” is common nickname for Fresno). I’ve called myself and associated with the “Mod Scene” since the mid 1990’s, though I have always leaned and aligned with that scene since I was younger.

Soon I’ll change my avatar here and I’ll post myself in full regalia. I look pretty smashing actually. Mods……..honest living under *very* difficult circumstances 😉

My UK trip is going to be three weeks. One week will be spent in North Wales for obvious reasons (cousins, an uncle….who happens to be named ‘Tom Jones’ lol). The other two weeks? London and “Madchester” obviously. Brighton would be rad. I could fulfill my “quadrophenia” thing!
