RIP Zippy

Zippy’s son Gabriel advised readers of Zippy Catholic that Zippy was killed in a car accident:

Hello all.

Though I have no way to offer any proof at the moment, I am Zippy’s son. My real name, which he gave to me, is Gabriel.

My father, whose real name is Matthew, was indeed killed in an accident on the road two days ago. My family and I are still reeling at the loss.

I am currently in the midst of trying to make funeral arrangements while also caring for my family. While I don’t have the time or energy to give him a proper send off now, I plan on writing something of an obituary for him and posting it to this blog later. For now, all I will say is that no one who knew him could possibly doubt his powerful love for God and his family. To have that man as my father is the greatest blessing God has ever given me.

I would ask you all to pray for the repose of his soul and the peace of his widow, my mother.

Thank you all.

Pax Christi.

Zippy (Matthew) greatly inspired me with his faith and he taught me more than I can express, both through his explanations as well as how he conducted himself.  I know that I’m just one of many who will miss him terribly.  If you follow the link at the top of the post you will see comments and condolences from some of his readers.

I will be praying for the repose of his soul as his son asked, as well as for God’s comfort to his widow and children.  I ask my readers to do the same.

I only just found out I’ve been banned by http://www.patheos.com/blogs/markshea/2018/09/some-bad-news.html#disqus_thread, Catholic & Enjoying It. I’m not too impressed by that. Nor am I impressed by reading a comment saying that Zippy had no use for Vox Day. We certainly live in interesting times.

He was truly one of the most insightful modern writers I have ever encountered, directly or indirectly. For whatever reason, my comment was stuck in moderation over there, so I’ll use this space to say my piece.

    Gabriel,

Your father was quite literally the first Catholic, I as a Protestant, have “met” (quotes because it was purely online) who truly showed me that there are “born-again Christians” in the Roman Catholic Church. I hope you understand that as I mean it, which is that your father was quite literally a living rebuke of that libel of Catholicism I grew up being told. He may not have convinced me to become a Catholic (yet), but accepting the truth of many of his arguments became a point in my life where the Lord was able to start granting me peace that had hitherto eluded me. It was not the peace that comes from filling one’s mind with saccharine, rhetorical nonsense, but the peace that comes from seeing through the glass a little less darkly and being a little better equipped to right one’s mind and outlook with the Lord’s. I owe him immensely for that.

I read those comments as well…no surprise they took exception to his last post…specifically the ‘masturbation into a deliberately poisoned womb’ meaning using artificial birth control.

‘Mutilated sexual acts (including but not limited to masturbation, sodomy, condomistic sex, and masturbation into a deliberately poisoned womb) do not have – qua kind of behaviour – this intrinsic relationship to the procreation of human life. If all instances of this kind of behaviour ceased it would have no effect on the procreation of human life (except to the extent that people would substitute natural sex for unnatural sex: the cessation of unnatural sexual behaviours would certainly not impair procreation).

The Catholic Church teaches that all sexual acts must of necessity – in order to be morally licit – retain their intrinsic relationship to the procreation of human life, in just this sense.’

He certainly did well telling it like it is to the best of his abilities.

    Earl

If people stopped masturbating, having homosexual sex and having contracepted sex, women would return to having natural sex with possibility of procreation. Most men would be having no sex at all.

  7. earl says:

Most men would be having no sex at all.

He was talking about the intrinsic relationship of sex to the procreation of life in regards to morality of the act in the Catholic church. Both men and women do everything to try and seperate the two.

Besides I don’t see giving up unnatural and immoral sex acts is a threat to a man having no sex at all. It seems more often than not from stories around here…married men were getting refused a lot and I usually assume artifical birth control was involved at some point in the marriage or fornication (with or without contraception) happened before the marriage.

What Zippy and I like to point out is how these things seperate sex from the possibility of procreation.

May God bless Matthew’s (Zippy’s) family, and comfort them in their grief. And may we all meet at the resurrection.

  9. feministhater says:

For once guys, I think we should leave the arguments out of the thread.

I pray for his salvation and for his family’s well being during this time. No matter the differences between us, the death of a loved one is a experience we have all endured.

Prayers and enbraces to Zippy’s family at this time of terrible loss.

May he rest in peace, Amen.
Eternal rest, give unto him O Lord, and let perpetual Light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace, Amen.

If you read this, Gabriel and family, please accept my condolences and know that we all here are praying for strength and courage for you in this sad time.

RIP Matthew, and deep condolences to Gabriel and the rest of the family.

Matthew’s been in my Rosaries and I’m already asking him to pray or me.

Mike T., you are an important part of the Zippyverse. A lot of things got clarified for me when you and Zippy wrangled, and you always seemed to take correction from Zippy in a Gospel-sanctioned way (humbly, not resentfully). I always admired your courage for even getting into the ring with Zippy at all. He was not a man to trifle with.

I think your condolence comment here should be on that thread. Can you get one of the heavy hitters from there to post it on your behalf? I’d certainly be happy to do so myself, though I’m not a heavy hitter, and I’ve posted at least two too many times on that thread already. Anyway, if it matters, let me know.

I first stumbled onto Zippy’s blog after stumbling onto a thread on this blog, and the seismic cognitive shift since encountering Zippy Catholic is still continuing. It might take years to work through his tangle of interlinks properly–that’s why I hope it stays up.

I have not read any of Matthew’s writing. However, I have lost a loved one and I know how painful that is. I will pray for peace for the family.

Such awful news. He has been one of my teachers. I planned to learn from him many years more.

Let God rest his soul and comfort all the family.

God’s comfort to Matthew’s wife and to his children.

I learned a lot from Zippy’s blog posts and his free book on Usury.

  21. Mike T says:

    wdydfae,

For some reason my comments are auto-moderated now. Not sure why. I signed up for a new account specifically to comment on his blog again, which might be a factor.

If you want to read his older stuff, check out his posts in the archives of What’s Wrong with the World. I might have to do that myself, but I may steer clear of the comboxes because that’s where I first encountered Zippy… 11-12 years ago when I was in my early 20s. I’m sure I’d bruising my face with all of the facepalms 😉

  22. Mike T says:

For anyone interested, his old stuff is also preserved in the Wayback Machine. Link.

  23. You will be missed Zippy. Like everyone else, you influenced a lot of my thoughts as well.

  26. Advenedizo says:

Mike T, I have published your message at Zippy’s.

  27. GJ says:

My comment on Zippy’s blog is stuck in moderation too, so I’ll write this here:

This is a real blow. While we certainly had our differences of opinion, through his writings he has had a massive influence on me, starting at a time when I most needed it.

He was a great warrior for the truth. May he rest in peace, until he rises to receive his reward.

  28. Bruce says:

I knew his first name from his association, many years ago, with Jim Kalb’s online writings. Zippy always took the time to patiently answer my questions. He was a very good man.

It is possible to be saved as a Catholic and Protestant. But one of them will eventually come to knowledge of the truth.

I recommend James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries take on this issue.

That’s an outstanding tribute to your dad, Gabriel.

God is jealous of the bonds of love He makes between His own, and reluctant to break them, so despite this time of sadness, I’m confident in His grace for your reunion.

It must have pleased Father and King Jeshua, hearing your praiseful witness concerning your dad. May you reap the benefit of their gladness.

In your difficult time, take sure comfort from my message.

P.S. You share the name of my favorite angel!
