From The Telegraph (paywall warning*): Scotland Yard deputy commissioner tells inquest he locked himself in a car as he watched Westminster terrorist stab colleague.
[Sir Craig Mackey] locked himself in his car as he watched terrorist Khalid Masood kill one of his colleagues in Westminster because he had “no protective equipment and no radio,” he has told an inquest.
I should note that Sir Mackey is not a knight of the garter belt. The chivalrous Order of the Garter is the highest level of chivalry and Sir Mackey is of the lowest rank of knighthood, Knight Bachelor.
An article from The Telegraph titled No armed officers present to protect murdered PC during Westminster terror attack, inquest hears sheds more light on the incident. An officer armed only with CS spray (tear gas) was bravely running toward the murderer, when the armed bodyguard of a powerful man intervened and killed the terrorist:
“The attacker was walking towards me. He had the knives in his hands. I had a moment at that time I have never been able to remember from when he was walking towards me. I still have no recollection of it.”
Referring to what he has since seen on CCTV footage, PC Ross added: “I have run to the gate, then stopped, turned around, then (I was) running at the suspect with some kind of plan in my head to try and tackle him before he got anyone else.”
Seconds later, Masood was shot dead by a plainclothes officer – understood to be the then Defence Secretary Michael Fallon’s personal bodyguard.

The UK is a disgrace to manhood. That whole island is a bunch of pussies who let the government trod over their dignity and personal rights

I’ll just leave this right here.

Buried in the story: Cops aren’t allowed to carry guns because they only protect the lowly public. Only the personal bodyguards of politicians and high government officials can carry guns.
There’s never a kickass woman around when you need one.
Crank,
No kidding. It’s scary and infuriating at the same time.
I did see uniformed police officers carrying firearms around Buckingham Palace and at Heathrow (airport), but those were the only places in London.
I would also add that during my visit to London last year I often felt unsafe and was vigilant of my surroundings.
Some Strong Independent Whamens™ should have made their voices heard, stood up to the Patriachy, and nagged Masood into submission. Sir Craig Mackey did the right thing by standing down and not getting in the way of the opportunities for a brave, strong, capable woman to save the day.
@Lexet Blog – your statement does not sound ironic. Like you really are saddened by the lack of chivalry the cowardly Mackay displayed. Easy to be brave in bullet-proof armor and carrying massive firepower than completely unarmed and unarmored against a violent knife-wielding man. Guess he should have shouted “Tally Ho!” and bravely dived in against the wicked foe, protecting Mi’ Ladies and Gents. Going down, dying a hero as his guts spilled on the floor, yet saving exactly no one.. Brave Sir Robin. Better that than be called a “pussy” amiright? Better to have 6 dead than 5, amiright? At least one more death would have been worth it, just so they could say the Brits are brave gentlemen, dying for Mi’ Ladies honor.
He had a car. Why not smack him from behind?
I’m sure he could have improvised a weapon or at least gone for the attacker’s legs. What a piece of crap.
Just like always, it takes a person with a gun to take out a criminal who has a knife or other weapon.
And for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t know (since the Leftist MSM either buried it or won’t report it): since the UK government banned gun ownership for its subjects (ironic that, isn’t it?), crime rates increased instead of decreasing (like they were supposed to do, in Lefty Looney Land).
AND since the people don’t have firearms, there has been an increase in crimes committed with knives/edged weapons!
And what did the geniuses in the UK government decide to do? You guessed it: they have wanted to ban knives altogether or control the kind of knives people can have in their homes!
“That’s an offensive weapon, that is!”
“It’s a kitchen butcher knife!”
“You don’t need a knife with a blade that length! Come on, you’re going down to the station!”
“The only difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.” — Albert Einstein
Adrian Ajao (to give him the name by which I knew him and under which I had represented him) that is to say the above named Khalid Masood threatened me and not for the first time on the last occasion that I saw him which was in the Fish and Chip shop (do you have them in America?). I pretended not to have heard him as the rest of the shop ignored his incoherent rantings and given what we now know about him that cowardice, or if you are more charitable, caution on my part may have saved my life for he had fits of violent rage. The British Police do not carry guns and much prefer it that way – most are undoubtedly brave but if I had been Sir Craig I presume that I would have done as he did. Ajao was no more a real Muslim than I, superficially as English as I and not unsuccessful with women (God knows why or how for he was built like a truck and certainly not fair of feature and black or mulatto) yet he blamed me for wrecking his marriage – I still and probably never will know what it was that I was supposed to have done. His untimely death means that I now walk the streets without fear.
Certain foreigners including American Presidents are awarded Honourary Knighthoods but in those circumstances it is wrong to refer to them (though everyone does) as e.g. Sir Bob (Geldof – being a citizen of the Irish free state). I have never heard of a recipient of the order as having been referred to as a Knight of the Garter Belt and unless Dalrock knows otherwise that is a mistake: it is just plain Knight of the Garter. Everyone wants a Knighthood (a gong, as we say) but unlike ascendancy to the Nobility the award can be and sometimes is withdrawn. America having passed on the possibility of receiving gongs has outsourced such amusement to The Oscars, Grammys and the endless Halls of Fame and like America most recipients of Knighthoods seem to be in showbiz. So much more dignified when The Prince of Wales merely taps you on you shoulders with his machete. No ranting against Mr Trump or thanks to Mr Weinstein without whom none of this would have been possible. I can hear it now: “Arise, Sir Opus”.
“In The Old Days” the British Police out front of the American Embassy were conspicuously armed. I don’t know if that is still the case or was at that time associated with the then current 9/11 events.
“Arise, Sir Opus”
Be sure and let us know so we can throw a proper internet party to celebrate. Would it be safe to say a man’s ascendancy to Knighthood would lend even more gravitas to his blog commentary? This makes me wonder just how many Knighted persons do comment on blogs…
@ Opus
As long as you memorize “there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet”, you should be fine. You don’t even have to be sincere when you recite it.

And that right there illustrates why Britian has terrible leadership. What’s good for the shepherds aren’t good for the sheep.
Knowing how the upside down world of justice works there…he’d probably be charged for murder of the terrorist.
However yes…pretty much any tool a man has can turn into a weapon when needed.
There’s cities in the US with that ‘vibrancy’ that you need to have the same vigilence.
Meanwhile back in Portland, Antifa declares themselves as the local cops and violently directs traffic.

Another cowardly-bitch cop. YAAAWWWWWWWWWWWN … what else is new?
>he had “no protective equipment”
How hard is it to run over someone with your car?
> Sir Hamster comments at this very blog.
Ha!
Running over him with the car seems like the best option. You could also get the tire iron, jack handle, or jack out of the trunk and use it as a weapon.
Oh to see ourselves as others see us and yet Earl’s views on Britain’s policing seem to me something which few English will agree with. We certainly do not see our elite as privileged by their protection but recognise that those in probable risk need some form of protection. We also bask in the knowledge that not only are we unlikely to be shot dead by the police but never have school shootings. I am not trying to have an on-line American-British War but feel compelled merely to suggest that Earl’s view would not be much agreed with on our side of the pond. Most British regard the American obsession with weaponry as rather suicidal. Knife crime and Acid attacks are however a problem for us.
Mindset is more important than tools. Given the Brit politico’s mindset was to hunker down, to hide, no tool would have done him any good. If I were in the vicinity I wouldn’t want that guy shooting a gun anyway, he might hit me…by accident.
PS: People who opine about disarming or fighting knife-carriers usually haven’t actually ever tried it, not even with a plastic toy knife. It’s not as easy as it looks in the movies…

Knives and acid are weapons. Some of you British are apparently obsessed with them…
@Anonymous Reader
I think not. Fear of knives is one thing but I doubt there are ranges where one can practice knifery and although I have many knives they are left in my kitchen’s drawers. For a country that sprang from our rib I puzzle as to how it is that America can be so different with regard to its attitude towards weaponry. How did that happen?

Not All British Are Like You.
Especially Londoners. Most of them are not like you.

Actually the Brit attitude towards weaponry was rather similar until the Bolshevik coup scared your elites into your first modern “gun control” law circa 1920. Somewhere around here I have a quote from the early 20th century regarding ” the rifle in the crofter’s cottage” being one of the guarantors of liberty. Unthinkable 100 years later, of course.
In fiction:
Conan Doyle includes in his Sherlock Holmes fiction from time to time a request by Holmes to Watson, “Be sure to bring your revolver”. Not uncommon in the Victorian / Edwardian era.
If you view Alfred Hitchcock’s excellent movie “The Man Who Knew Too Much” from the 1930’s, there is a scene where the police go and wake a gunsmith up in order that they can obtain SMLE .303 rifles from his shop to fight anarchists barricaded in a house. This scene would have been quite understandable to British audiences of the era.
Old redneck joke:
Bubba and the Mrs. are riding along in the pickup truck towards town and there’s a smaller truck in front of them. A man is driving and a woman is sitting right next to him, with the far right seat empty. Mrs. Bubba sighs and reminisces, “Bubba, remember when we used to drive to town like that?”.
Bubba thinks a bit, then observes, “Yep”. Then he’s quiet a while. Finally he says, “I ain’t moved…”.

We learned two centuries ago that the government is not always our friend. Taming the frontier and losing the War of Northern Aggression made us double down on the attitude. And now that the freaks are inventing new genders, I’m ammosexual, baby!
In case Opus has not viewed the 1934 Man Who Knew Too Much in a long time or at all, I wish to point out that it was Peter Lorre’s first English-speaking movie role. Hitchcock saw his performance in “M” and wanted him for the picture. Lorre’ had moved out of Germany for his health and was getting over a little problem with morphine at the time, plus his English was rudimentary so there were some difficulties to deal with.
Lorre’ learned his lines for the movie phonetically, or perhaps I should write “pho-NET-ee-kal-ee”. Hitchcock made sure that the script was translated to German so that Lorre’ knew what his character was saying and doing, but his delivery is phonetic, probably accounting for some of the odd, somewhat stilted delivery — which just happens to work perfectly for the character.
It has always struck me as a very English film, along with The 39 Steps.

Amen. Amen. Everybody gets cut.
We have the 2nd ammendment…you don’t. Seems to me our forefathers knew something about what happens when the elites get protection like that from bad guys and the peasants don’t.
Khaleed Masood. That’s a very British name…..
Was Khaleed Masood a British citizen, or was he an agent of Cultural Enrichment?
If he was the latter, then why is he there?
At the risk of being labelled a racist bigot, perhaps high levels of immigration form Muslim countries just isn’t good.
@Spike
Trust me: Khaleed Masood (Adrian Ajao) was an idiot. He was born in England adopted and brought up by a white family as Christian. His ancestory was not Islamic but African. He was friends with Mark Ashdown (who is white) and you can see on-line what Mark (who I know pretty well) has to say about him. In England having a black friend is not a sign that one is a virtue-signalling liberal – though that may be changing.
@Anonymous Reader
Hitchcock filmed The Man who Knew Too Much twice (1934 and 1956) but I cannot recall seeing either version. Hitch was fluent in German (there is a clip on Youtube of him conversing in German) having made his first movies (silent) in the 1920s in Germany. In England one may own weapons but only under licence and they must be locked away which is subject to inspection by the police (a bit like our television sets). There is no call in England to allow the possession of weapons as a form of protection against the Government (that is the same government you rebelled against and threw out in favour of your present government who seem to be so much a threat to you. Hmmm).
Dr Watson was a military man which may explain his owning a revolver. I have hardly ever seen a gun and never one that works.
I have seen The 39 Steps (unless I am confusing it with its 1959 remake with Kenny More) and what makes 39 Steps with its flight to Scotland so English defeats me.
@ Opus
Everyone in England owns weapons, both licensed and unlicensed, locked and unlocked, inspected and not inspected. Firearms are not the only weapons.
Has it ever occurred to you that all humans are prone to abuse power?
Give it time. In the mean time, keep repeating “there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is his prophet”. You’re going to need that phrase.
Aaron Clarey and I have an alternative here: perhaps “standing down” is the right thing to do in certain situations:
Language warning for the video, by the way.
I teach knife fighting and knife/edged weapon defense. Guess what – I am running and hiding too …and yet I am not a cop. What I see when I saw his photo is a jolly man with a donut fetish.
There is no longer an excuse for not having armed citizens. Everyone wants an armed good guy to put an end to an armed bad guy – be it the cop, SWAT, or CCW permit holder.
I do not yet know how in a succinct manner to convey to a soft-head “I understand you disagree with me/others lawfully having weapons and that does not matter because my/our/their safety is more important than you feelings”. Perhaps I could try “alas I am an adult living in reality and no longer live in a childlike fantasy, perhaps some day you will join me”
